    Leupold VX6 - New Options

    Hi all,

I have been quite interested in the VX6 series of scopes since they were first released and thought that a 3-18x44 would be the next scope I'd buy, other than I didn't like that it wasn't available in the TMOA reticle.

Last night I came across a US forum which seemed to say that the 3-18 now comes with a TMOA option and is also available with a different set of turrets, more like tall target turrets.

Does anyone know anything more about these new options, especially the new turrets? Or is it so hot off the press that there isn't much info out yet.

I always thought the 3-18x44 was the near perfect balance of magnification, size and weight along with excellent glass and repeatable turrets, but was slightly turned off by the reticle options and that there was no other turret options. Now though, it seems to be a great option for a hunting/long range/target shooting without looking like too Tacticool.

Why would it be single turn?

If it's not actually single turn it effectively is since there aren't any revolution indicators. Just begging to get lost in your elevation

    Needs proper clicks.
8 nicks per unit just isn't right.
They can easily do it, but they would prefer you to pay1K plus extra for the M5 turrets on a mk4.

0.7 per click isn't user friendly

The VX6s come with zero stop do they not?
With 19moa per revolution and zero stop, getting lost should be a problem.

I just prefer single turn as it doesn't allow you to do that dumb thing where you dial up, shoot something, forget to dial back down and then later you see you have 3 moa dialled on. Or is it 21moa? Did I reset it and did the turret move? Or did I forget to reset it? Train yourself to reset to zero after every shot but I doubt most people do that and it takes some repetition to drill it into your process

Zero stop negates that concern - if it has one.

20moa per turn still isn't great, I have 13mil which is more like 45moa per turn, with a .308 or something if it is actually limited to single turn (like the Z5) you'd only get to 600-700 meters with 20 moa?

Swaro Z5 has single turn with like 13moa and it's a shit setup

you have to ask yourself who is the scope designed for, maybe your not the target market - 20 moa will get you a ways out there, not as far as some scopes . .. but enough for a lot of shooters, and some.
i practice out to 500 but have never shot past 300 in the field, that scope would do me just fine . . . R

Just read on another forum that the turrets will have a zero stop that allows multiple revolutions, not just one like the current CDS zero stop.
Not that I know how the current zero stop works.

Ok, but why would you need an 18 at even 500m
the 12 power would be my pick on a bigger game centerfire, maybe the 18 on Varminter
But the higher ones only if they had a better turret/ click system.

I was looking at a Zeiss HD5 today and that was a single turn jobby as well which equated to 16.5 MOA.

I have a HD5 5-25x. 16.5 gets me to 850 yrds. Takes about a minute to remove the stop so you can dial well past 1200 If shooting steel or targets.
I don't intend shooting animals outside of 400 yrds so it horses for courses.
The Z5 I had had ample as a hunting scope.
