    Leupold warranty rant

Last year in October we had a issue with the leupold on my brothers target rifle, a older vx3 8.5-25 x50.
It had stopped holding zero and lost clarity.

No worries time to utilize leupolds lifetime warranty.

We didn't have the original box for it so I used the box for another one of my scopes and dropped it off to our local gun store to be sent away.

4 months went by with no word so we went into our local to see if they could chase it up and a week 2 weeks later the scope arrived. Beauty

The scope arrived back at the local wrapped in a peice of bubble wrap without the scope box we sent it in and marks all over it. Chips in the anodizing on both ends and both turret caps, a gouge in the ocular bell and power ring knurling.

After afew back and forward emails with niow auz/nz they have blamed the change over from nzaisa as to the missing box and damage.

Niow have offered to cerakote it and replace the power ring but cant fix the gouge in the bell as they no longer make that tube anymore and its another 2-3 month wait for the cerakoting.

They have refused to replace the scope.

Bloody disappointed to say the least.

From what we have been told it went to nzasia then to nioa nz then nioa au for repairs then back to nioa nz then back to our local. Some where in the middle of this nzasia were no longer the nz leupold agents.

My understanding is nioa aus do the warranty repairs for nz and aus and that's who it was sent away to for the repairs

Sounds like you need to send a complaint directly to Leupold USA. They might try to direct you via the current NZ agents / warranty repair system but you need to explain that route is the source of your dissatisfaction. Ask Leupold USA if you can deal directly with them and I would expect you should receive a satisfactory result.

We have emailed leupold directly and they replied saying nioa is working hard to come to a resolution. Basically wait another 3 months for the repairs (minus the ding in the tube)and miss out on the rest of the club shoots for the year or except the scope as it is and be happy

Trav, that’s sounds pretty shit to me, if I were you I would be contacting Leupold directly and explaining the situation, after all Leupold is based in the states and all your dealing with is the NZ agent!

I had a problem with a pair of meindls here in NZ so I contacted Meindl in Europe and problem was resolved.

As for Leupold, I sent off a Leupold scope last September/October to NZ Asia who was the then Leupold agent for NZ, some 6 months later I just got the scope back from the new agent which is now NIOA, their parent company is NIOA Australia.

When you had a faulty, broken Leupold you would send the scope/optic back to the states, a few years ago that all changed and all optics went to NIOA in Australia for repair/replacement.

Let us know how you get on

I’m currently having no luck in getting a response from NIOA Australia and New Zealand on an issue I have with a Leupold scope.

I’m now trying though a local retailer in the hope they will communicate with them. So far no response….

I've got a vx5 off under warranty at the moment. It's only been 1 month so far, so hoping they will refine things and honour there warranty.

If you ever have a mate travelling to the USA , get him to take the scope with him and send it to the leupold factory from over there. I think you pay something like 50 ish dollar of shipping back but at least it is fixed. That is what I have done for my last 4 scopes . No issues

I was thinking the same thing, Sounds like the quality control on the production line needs a bit of fine tuning.
