Thread: leupold Yosemite what do you use

Ok guys whats your thoughts. Decided to buy some binoculars. Looking at Yosemites, had a look seem robust and well priced. All my hunting is central north island bush and looked through the 8x30 in the shop, they dont have the 6x30 in stock so I cant compere the 2. So who is using the 6x or 8x and why and would you swap if you purchased again. Thinking the 6x will enough and used more than the 8x although dont know where I got that theory from. Borrowed some vortex 10x but put them back into my pack after a short time as they had just the standard strap and they clanked onto my rifle when I bent down. So what do you recommend for a harness to keep them from swinging around.

Had leupold mckenzies, prefer the vortex diamond backs that i got since. (Prefer my leica 10x25s even more)

I wouldnt bother with a harness, go for the bino bivy, few makes to choose twin needle, kuiu alaska guide creations all have their pros and cons.

I have found that is you get a small set of 25s then they fit in a pocket and get used more often

I used the Yosemite 6x30 for years and still have them. For the price they're dam hard to beat IMO. Good glass, nice handy size and good field of view, excellent for the kids too. Great for bush and slip type hunting, and you'll still locate animals on the tops.

I bought a pair of Leupold Yosemite 6x30 recently, second hand, from Trademe. Have not used them hunting yet. I expect them to be good for the bush. There is nothing else on the market in 6x that comes close to these bins unless you want to go much higher in cost (I think there is a 6.5x Vortex bin next up the scale). There is a lot of information in the birdwatcher websites about the Yosemite 6x30 and the clones of this design which has been around for some time, selling successfully under various names. I don't expect the 6x30 to be successful for glassing the tops. I found that 7x42 Swarovski to be too low in magnification for tops, for my older eyes. There seem to be a few 8x30 Yosemites on Trademe but only rarely does the 6x30 turn up. I find the smaller bins, like the 8x25 just too small for comfortable glassing. They seem to need perfect eye/binocular alignment which does not usually happen in the field.

As I suspect I said to you in the shop when you were looking, get the Kowa 6x30

I have the 8x30s, really love them. Had them for maybe 10+ years.

That said I purchased some Delta Ones from Sarvo for my 11 year old son for Christmas. He's really into hunting, but I have a wonky eye so it was always hard sharing my yose's with him.

I got the 8x32s. I tested them the other day to compare to my Yosemites. They are a similar/better price, lighter and more compact. And the visuals are as good as if not better. If I wear buying for myself again I would buy the Delta Ones.
