@akaroa1 I know this will ruffle feathers but Mr Browning ruined a simple design with his typical complicated mess of parts and challenging machining.
I can quite honestly say the Colt 1911 is the only John browning design I appreciate.
Working on his various designs today gives me headaches

Well I don't care for any of his lever action rifles myself
But they did make one or two ( million ) of his 94s

And anyway " The gun that won the west " was just an advertising slogan in its day.

The 1873 Trapdoor Springfield is the gun that won the West in the hands of the US Army

Won't ruffle my feathers ! Most of my feathers have already fallen out.
Sad commentary on the state of Gunsmithing today if you can't deal with an old JMB design
Maybe he made them complicated to keep gunsmiths in work for a few centuries

Can you expand upon your statement a bit more please?

Personally I admire the P-35 the most,it was light years ahead when it was designed and it's still a good pistol choice 110 years later.

The 1886 is a bit of a masterpiece too,I really love my one.

I can't imagine MK as a Soviet quoting Christian verse & phrase,but I guess you never know. He did rob the garand trigger and FN1900 safety for his AK.

The browning hi power just never jelled with me.. both looks and ergonomics.. even the name is stupid. High power 9mm luger? At least he got the 1911 right with the .45acp chambering..

Yes, Mikhail Kalashnikov was a Christian, specifically a follower of the Russian Orthodox Church. He embraced the religion in his later years, after the age of 91. He expressed remorse in a letter to the Patriarch Kirill, expressing his "spiritual pain" over the deaths caused by the AK-47.

This I am not disputing, just that most of his designs are uneccisarily complicated and ugly. Simplicity and form factor was not his strong point

No feathers ruffled here. I think the "Hi-power" was with reference to the magazine capacity no the cartridge. Although 9x19 was pretty pokey compared to alot of other pistol and revolver cartridges in Europe back then.

Nice little 94/22 XTR I bought recently. It's been chopped and threaded,first year of production back when Winchester made nice stuff.

It will be a good way to introduce my daughter to .22s
