For waht its worth I don't see any difference between the 250 case and the Creedmoor case, Creedmoor is for all intents and purposes an improved version of the other.

I don't chase ultimate velocity, I'm happy with efficiency, and the 6XC with the Creedmoor are just that, nothing to chose between them to my way of thinking, just what s likely to be around for a while

If it's not a first round hit you need to practice more

Main difference between the Creedmoor and 6XC (which I have had also) is the availability of Lapua small primer brass now (and Petersen etc) for Creedmoor.

Buy a howa heavy barrel action and a stock of your choice
6.5cm would be my choice it’s what I have
And the ballistics are awesome for what you want

Too heavy I’d say, for what @Tentman wants to do @rambo-6mmrem. Great to see you’ve also got your Howa shooting like that. They are freakin’ accurate. Put a lot of semi-customs in the shade for a fraction of the price.

What I’m very very curious about it the sporter contour Howas in 6mm Creedmoor. Not sure if they are here yet. That would be an interesting rifle, assuming the stock is sensible like the ones available in the US. I’d be all over one with a sporter barrel and a light and rigid stock.

Hard to ignore that sort of accuracy @rambo-6mmrem - what stock does your rifle have and what is the weight ?? Thanks

TENT, You've essentially described specs for Grendel so run some ballistics figures for that with 123gr at 2200 fps which is what you'll get from an 18 or 20" barrel. Mine shot ok at 500 and 600m gongs and its powerful enough for a deer at a pinch. Drawbacks are availability of factory ammo is patchy at present and most 6.5 hunting projectiles are designed for higher velocities. For target shooting you might need a heavy barrel. If it's only an evening after hares weight won't be prohibitive. A factory howa mini could leave enough$$ available for an "appropriate" stock.

Hey @rambo-6mmrem, the Hogue stocked 20” heavy barrel weighs 8.5lbs bare rifle. So with your walnut stock, scoped, suppressed and loaded, you wouldn’t get much change out of 11lbs at a guess. Maybe 10.5lbs.

But I think the weight is an advantage, in these kind of accuracy field rifles. When I’m set up on a rough patch of dirt at a funny angle and thistles poking up my nose I like a stable, solid rifle.

Hmmmm - further homework (and maybe some thinking, although some might doubt it) lead me to agree that maybe, just maybe, old @nor-west might have the right idea, with a fast twist (1:7 or 1:8) 6mm Rem. Plenty of case capacity, plenty of donor actions (well maybe a few less given pooh-seventy seems to be flavour of the month just now).

I can't see any reason why a properly set up 6mm Rem shouldn't shoot well.

I'm not a Beretta fan but maybe a Tikka T3 would be a good basis for such a project with good availability of stocks and the possibility of a decent trigger.
