I have a walnut stock
Have not Waighed it but it’s not light 8 or 9 lb

The groups you see are from a 123 amax and theres .5gn charge difference between the groups the slightly hotter one being the best
TENT, You've essentially described specs for Grendel so run some ballistics figures for that with 123gr at 2200 fps which is what you'll get from an 18 or 20" barrel. Mine shot ok at 500 and 600m gongs and its powerful enough for a deer at a pinch. Drawbacks are availability of factory ammo is patchy at present and most 6.5 hunting projectiles are designed for higher velocities. For target shooting you might need a heavy barrel. If it's only an evening after hares weight won't be prohibitive. A factory howa mini could leave enough$$ available for an "appropriate" stock.
Hey @rambo-6mmrem, the Hogue stocked 20” heavy barrel weighs 8.5lbs bare rifle. So with your walnut stock, scoped, suppressed and loaded, you wouldn’t get much change out of 11lbs at a guess. Maybe 10.5lbs.
But I think the weight is an advantage, in these kind of accuracy field rifles. When I’m set up on a rough patch of dirt at a funny angle and thistles poking up my nose I like a stable, solid rifle.
Hmmmm - further homework (and maybe some thinking, although some might doubt it) lead me to agree that maybe, just maybe, old @nor-west might have the right idea, with a fast twist (1:7 or 1:8) 6mm Rem. Plenty of case capacity, plenty of donor actions (well maybe a few less given pooh-seventy seems to be flavour of the month just now).
I can't see any reason why a properly set up 6mm Rem shouldn't shoot well.
I'm not a Beretta fan but maybe a Tikka T3 would be a good basis for such a project with good availability of stocks and the possibility of a decent trigger.
Yes get a majestic or similar action and do it or.....to really upset the apple cart screw the barrel off your Kurtz 8X51 and run a small action 6mm cartridge or is it your intention to keep that one original?
How about I chuck you a Zastava and you can do what you want and we will compare to my majestic build? @Tentman
@nor-west - are you out of ya mind old chap, have you been up late or out in the sun?? Rebarrel a original Oberndorf sporting rifle (kurz action) in rare as hell 8x51 . . . . . Noooooooo
