Lightweight 0-500m all round hunting rifle

    My new lightweight medium-range rifle.

    Spec's

    Rem 700 action
    Walther Loather Barrel
    Fluted barrel
    Worked factory trigger
    Calibre 6.5x284
Extra low Talley rings - lapped
    Nikon Monarch 2-8x32 scope
    PTG lightweight firing pin
    PTG lightweight ADL trigger guard
Bell & Carsen Carbon Fibre/Arimid stock
    Floated
    Bedded
    Limb Saver recoil pad

*Wyatt extended mag box sitting here at home waiting to go in

Tuiman put together the metal work for me, so big thanks to him.

Should be good for 0-500m as an all round hunting weapon. Short and handy with very good balance.

Nah mate; the epoxy needed the weekend to cure so haven't had time to shoot it. The scope is a bit of a gamble...but from what ''those in the know'' have told me, I think its going to be all good? Time will tell.

Kind of copied Norway and his short barrelled 6.5x284, so I think the package will work okay for my intended use (mainly bush hunting, but able to shoot out to 500m if need be).

What length barrel? And what projectiles are you planning on using? Had thought of 6.5-284 but ended up .260ai so will be keen to hear how this goes nice rifle to

Going to start with 140 Amax's and see how that goes? 6.5x284 is now pretty standard, so getting Norma and/or Lapua brass is easy, so too are the dies etc... so that was the appeal for me. A .260 would have been more efficient in the shorter barrel perhaps but it gets to be more an academic argument and in the real world the numbers don't mean enough at 500m to worry about.

Mates got a kimber 300wsm chopped rightdown with a hardy can and a dialling scope which will still do under moa at 500.
It certainly changed my opinion on short barrels and kimbers!

When the Savage Lightweight first came out in 2012, 6.5x284 was listed as an option. I see that its been dropped as an option now.
    5.5lb and 20” barrel.

They still list 260 Grendel and 260Rem, which would be nice options.

That is a nice slick looking package! I like the smooth stock too, kind of like a car, nice body lines..

Well done hope it shoots for you, no doubt it will

Nice. The 130gr swift would be a good choice for that speed and range.
