    Lining/Sleeving a .22WMR barrel

I have a Winchester 9422 (lever action) in .22WMR, the bore is quite average and I'd like to get it sleeved/lined with a .17HMR liner to make it functional again. I emailed Dean Maisey about this and his reply was that it wasn't possible because the .17HMR wouldn't feed from the tube mag. However Winchester made a factory .17HMR 9422. Dean has not replied in the week since I pointed this out.

    Does anyone have any input?

Do you have an email or phone number? Google isn't very helpful.

Being based on the .22wmr case i would have though that the .17hmr would feed from a tube mag perfectly well, some modification of the feed lips might be required and could be tricky. i know i hate taking lever action rifle to bits, well putting them back together is the hard part. maybe it was just an excuse not to do the job, not that turning down work is ever a good thing in my mind.

I suspect he was tossing it in the "too hard" basket, as Winchester made a factory 9422 in .17HMR, aka the "model 9417".

I'm considering simply re-barreling in .22WMR again, now.

have you tried feeding a .17hmr round through your action? if it feeds alright you could just rebarrel it in .17.

I have not, I'm in a slightly different country. I'll give it a go when I get home.

Edit: considering just going .22WMR because a .17HMR barrel would be heavier and upset the balance.

true, i forgot you are in OZ. surely the increase in weight would be minimal, you could always add a few grams of weight to the butt to keep the balance the same if it was noticeable.
