Howdy, pop quiz for any of you that may have a Lithgow model 12 .22lr the little 5 shot :
If you apply the safety, pull the trigger then remove the safety does it fire by itself ?
I have one that does and tried comparing it with my mates and turns out his does also.
Trying to work out if its a design flaw or if we've both got faulty trigger mechs.
Any help would be appreciated.

Neither of my lithgow model 12's do that, no matter how hard I pull the trigger, I wouldn't be surprised if its caused by wear somewhere in the trigger/safety mechanism, could be worth cleaning it out in case there is any dried up oil/gunk in the mechanism causing the issue
Sweet cheers for that, I have given it a bit of a clean, can't see any gunk doesn't look like much wear just not resetting , Ill have another play now I know its definitely not normal
Sounds like someone has had a go at lightening the trigger and overdone it.
Sear let's go and hangs up on the safety. Releasing the safety then fires it.
Considering both of my model 12's triggers feel like squeezing a 2x4 that would certainly be a reasonable explanation to underdogs issue
Got them sorted, mates one was an easy fix, overly lightened trigger spring. The other didn't play as nice lucky I had some spare parts must have been a tolerance stack of worn parts cheers
I grew up with one and still have it. Has an adjustable trigger weight, a little screw that loosens. Found out as a 12 yr old after a couple of brown-undies experiences of it going off all by itself, once nearly shooting my younger brother. Excellent accurate rifle tho, barrels made from surplus WWII Lithgow 303 stock I believe.

Remingtons can have the same problem when the trigger is adjusted to fine, rather dangerous situation to have. Good you got them sorted out.
