Thread: Long range blued barrel hunters.

Hi all. Pondering a new purchase of a Howa superlite but they only have a blued barrel. With my stainless rifles and long range shooting I run them dirty for repeatability on cold bore shots. Should a be worries about keeping a blue barrel dirty over multi day hunts?

No. About the only thing really essential in maintaining a barrel is taking the suppressor off if you fire a few shots.

I'm (was) looking at buying one too. There's some shocking reviews on YouTube which I think are genuine. Regarding rust resistance, I believe the ones sold in NZ are cerakoted which is a bonus.

No, I don’t clean my Sako 7mm rem mag much at all, oil outside of barrel.

Yes but I'm not sold on the cerakote and you can't coat the bore of a rifle

True, I'd prefer stainless too, but better than nothing and hopefully the bore wouldn't be getting too wet?

Exactly this

It's the inside that counts. Low care is different to no care. I like a well worn blued rifle with all the rights of passage blemishes. But the insides should be oiled and slick and the barrel cleaned periodically and thoroughly. Same for my stainless too.

My main blued rifle is a S&L classic. It gets cleaned after every few hunts and always if it's got wet. Battle scars galore but still treated like I love it. I want it to last through to the next generation.

You haven't struck a barrel with an oil ring then?

No. To be truthful I have no idea what I'm talking about, and haven't yet learned how I should care for my lovely new old L61R when it arrives in my mailbox next week

I dont do oil changes on my rifle either. Fuked if I know where the drain plug is..
