AR15, mini 14's are spray and pray territory. never tried a saiga in 223 but the 308 one shoots ok but at the end of the day its a sloppy AK action, bloody good if you get it dirty and full of mud etc but theres no precision in it

Nothing wrong with the platform per se - reliable, cheap to feed and accurate enough but if you start wanting to customise then I'd recommend an AR platform (says the guy who doesn't own an AR). ARs are the Lego of the firearm world. AKs... not so much.

How fast do you want it?
IE build up a AR15 from deals that you find for the bits.

Or just let the moths free and get one.......

Or if one wants more smiles for miles without reloading, steel-cased x39 is where it's at.

I guess that does raise the question, why 223 only?

    Pics or didn't happen.

Given your advertised location would you like to attend the next ASRA event located here:

    Auckland Service Rifle Assn

If you can spare the time it'd be great to see you there, it is a fantastic way to spend a Sunday morning and there's a few of us that attend too, It's a really cool club, there aren't any "fevered egos" or any shit like that.
