    Low mounts for Sako

If I were to put a leupy 2-7x33 on a sako 75, what would be a good option for nice low mounting? I have one piece optilocks and past experience tells me these will mount up to a 44mm obj scope no worries. Now I like a bit of thigh gap as much as the next guy, but I hate when wingsuit aviators start eyeing up the gap between my scope and barrel for their next YouTube video. Is there anything that will get the little leupy lower?

If I can I normally use either low Leupold Sako Mounts or original/pre-optilock Sako mounts.

Gunworks Ltd - 1" Leupold Sako Ringmount

In the Leupolds, even the mediums are quite low - I've had the bolt hit on the lows depending on model and scope and have had to go to mediums (noting I've got collection of various L461's/L46's and previously had L579's, all with Leupold scopes - but these possibly have a higher bolt throw given only a two-lug action).

The old Sako rings are very hard to source in good condition now noting the screws are very soft (although if you are really desperate let me know - I think I've got three or four good sets squirreled away (as well as a Sako aperture sight)). Mechanically the Leupolds are superior.

Other alternative which I have used in the past are Conetrols.

I have a set of excellent condition Leupold low mounts that were used on my Sako 85 with the Leupold VX2 2-7x33. Bought a VX 5 with 30mm tube so don't need them any more. I like the Leupold mounts because they're light and strong. PM me if interested.

Just be aware your leupold is likely shorter than a lot of larger mag scopes - ie the fat bit will be closer to the front ring - it might not be as gappy as you think.

I have a wee kahles on an 85, and although it’s in medium optiloks there’s not masses of room

Yip Leupold lows. Use them on a sako 75 with a 2.5-8x36 Leupold. Scope nice and low so 2-7x33 will piss in.

Also use them on vixen 222 with 2-7x33 Leupold. Awesome.

Look into Conetrol rings/mounts. I haven't found anything as low as them - and they're very slick/well made.

You can order a pair of rings and a pair of mounts from Conetrol, and if you'd like to switch either component to the next size up/down, you can post them back and they'll exchange them with the return shipping free of charge.

Not the cheapest rings ($300.00+ depending on features) but they can be adjusted for windage which is a bonus.

To give you an idea of how low they go (Low rings/1" tube):

Sako 85 Black Bear .308, Leupold VX 2 2-7x33. The mounts are wrong way around but still engaged in the groove. Was just trying a loose fit when I first bought them and hadn't realised the clamps go on the other side (important because of the Sako tapered grooves).
