I'm having an LR rifle built and I have yet to decide on a suppressor. I've got a Hardy suppressor on my deer rifle which has worked fine for me but it's the only suppressor I've ever had so I'm not sure how it stacks up to what else is available here.
Any suggestions?
Stay with the HRE hands down lighter and quieter then others ,and they stomp on recoil ..
Hardys or gunworks allgood. Had a play with a dpt the otherday to it was really good. If you.want something different talk to tuiman he does a nice cafbon fiber job looks sick.

FWIW I think its a waste of time to suppress a LR rig. Big, heavy and cumbersome with less recoil taming than a brake. As a LR rifle you should have all the time in the world to put in plugs. You also have access to kiwigreg and his T2/T3s which sound like the shizzle.
What's a T2/T3?
Coming from the US where suppressors are such a pain to have I am having fun having suppressors on everything.

Aaah sorry. I was expecting some fire breathing beast with 100g of powder launching a small car for a pill. I like the size of the Hardy then as it is shorter at the muzzle. Everything is always a compromise though with suppressors though.Quote:

Brakes are heinously unpleasant to be around. Blow shit everywhere, make it hard for your spotter, and a can reduces recoil sufficiently on cases of reasonable capacity.

Trouble is the mates with the brakes in our neck of the woods get the don't bring that F'n thing back :D,not much use a LR rig if its not welcome ,land owners that where lucky enough to shoot ,some dry stock others dairy dont enjoy the racket over three or so hours ,may be a little less recoil but the noise has no appeal ..

Ok think my turn to churn in on here - All my rifles are suppressed including my long range precision one. All have used a Gunworks one of some description - My heavy weight long range is running a Maximus. It's stumpy, fat & very quiet - I'm very happy with my choice. A few friends run HRE suppressors - which to be fair look (externally) better engineered but problems have also been experienced on one with pin holes etc due to very thin side walls. I think HRE have great products just think in the race for the lightest weight are sitting right on the edge of a happy weight / durability compromise. I've also a Roedale Delta suppressor on order that might arrive this century thats destined for my Kimber montana :)

Yes to Dans credit the problem was sorted quickly & new suppressor supplied. Probably the once bitten twice shy scenario in this case especially as weve have an excellent run with Gunworks items with no problems experienced. The HRE looks & performs great & I guess when your trying to be the innovator in the industry shit happens sometimes :XD:
Of the several NZ manufactured suppressors I personally own/have owned, HRE's have been the best by quite some margin.
In saying that, there are some horror stories out there about them. Some even from sources I actually trust. But the same could be said of all the local brands.
I have a Roedale on the way which will be my first muzzle forward can for a centre fire so that should be interesting.
Dan didnt give 2 fucks about my one - its bent, out of round and bulged.
Might do ok work, but customer service when there is an issue is next to zero.

Mate, a Gunworks maximus supp is all you need. They are light for the size and as quiet as you will get on a .260. I doubt you will ever need it but the follow up service is second to none and in NZ, so why would you bother with gear from overseas that if had a problem would be a time problem for you.
I run a 6.5 on a carbon sleeved supp that Tui man made me. As good as any out there IMO.
I use a break for LR stuff however.
Of Gunworks or Hardy , I would go Gunworks .
BUT the best designed & made can I have yet seen in NZ is HCS , and thats saying something .
I have a few Euro cans as well .
I have 2 steel 338LM cans , and never had a problem with either , and have a all aluminium can for 338LM as well , and although normally I would not reccommend such a material to contain the 90-100grs of powder of a 338LM , my alloy can is the one the Brit Army use on their AI AWSMs , so I think its OK to use , it does however mount over a large steel muzzle brake ( when used as such the muzzle brake will act as a steel blast baffle , ie it will not get EATEN as much/quickly as Aluminium ) .
Other than having a large custom designed SS can for the 338LM , the best I can reccomend is the new AU borelock design for the Sako TRG-42 , out side the US , I believe its the best 338 can available .

NO the Sonics , is I think a local Kiwi can , and its not a bad design or construction , its modular and is Aluminium , BUT has a nice little touch the center 1/3 of the baffle is a SS insert , so it should last more than a 100% Aluminium can if tha makes sense .
As its not a magnum I'd get a gunworks drelium, lifetime backup warranty and great service.
