    M40A1 , Tarananki Sunshine

    Hi Guys ,

Just had the M40A1 out for a bit of a shoot , confirm the zero .

My rifle is different than a std M40 build , in the trigger guard I have use is a one piece badger steel unit , instead of using a modifed 2 piece Winchester trigger guard .

    McMillan stock , USO scope & mount , rem700 action , 25 inche Bartlien 1-10 barrel .

Did you shoot anything or was it just a photo shoot?

Is the mount the real dual dovetail mount?

    Yeap ,

If you bothered to look at the pics you will see some fired brass , the scope is a tricky bugger to adjust , couldnt remember how good the zero was , its close , 1/2 inche to the left of poa .
The scope is state of the art , like 40yrs ago , its not easy to zero , para is a b%#$h to set , and is usually left set for a certain distance , locked & forgotten about , thats how difficult it is , it zero's like no other scope I have , also dioptler setting is limited .

A PMII is a piece of cake to zero , and use in comparision , this rifle is very old school , and I like it , but its not something I use a lot , but I do now want to shoot it more , even given it is harder to use than , my AW /PMII .

I would love to get out more & shoot more , But I have other things that demand time , like my young family , and my work , which is shift work , as to weekends , I get one off every 2 mths .

    Later Chris

Wasn't trying to hurt your feelings. Just thought there might have been a holey target to go with the story

    Cool period build Chris,
A lot of effort would have gone into piecing that together. It will be very satisfying each and every time you get the opportunity to shoot it.

What suppressor is that? Looks tiny, mustn't weigh much.

nice setup, well done . . . watched a guy ( ex- Marine ) on UTUBE attempt at building same, theres a good sized industry in the US providing the bits n bobs, total builds . . . the explanation on adjusting the scope made it sound a real pain compared to modern tactical scopes

still a special rifle in history and it just looks like what a sniper rifle should like . . to me

    MAE suppressor?
Will have a bit of weight in that rifle looking at the barrel profile probably 12-13lbs with the bipod on? Not a light weight but stable and easy to shoot well.

Very nice, pretty unique, and interesting piece of kit and I can see why you want to shoot it a bit more.

I'd say closer to 17lb with the scope and the can.

It would certainly be soft to shoot then, but hard to hold well standing...

    found the vid on the ex-marines build of the M40A1 . . . worth a look - 58 minutes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2eYcKfX_fXM

also this short history from Snipers Hide is worth a Gander . . . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRjVSDrTevw

i must say the original M40A1 with a clean barrel ( no suppressor ) and old school sling swivels ( no quick detachables ) might not be as user friendly, they look better . . . to me
