Does anyone on here use one of these? Was looking at one in the shop today and curious about the accuracy of them given they are based on a Ruger 10/22 design.
Often fancied a semi in 22mag but choices always seem a bit thin out there.

I have one in .22 LR and its mint
not uncommon for them to discharge a round half out of battery propelling the extractor out of the loading port and blowing the mag out of the bottom of the gun, i wouldn't recommend one for a left hand shooter.

Really? Are you basing this statement on personal experience or something you have read somewhere?
I have heard of the issues you are talking about but only on the .17hmr versions not the .22LR and magones. To be honest that would apply to any .17 semi not just the Mag Reseach rifles.
If you did read about it do you have a link?
Have also heard the same, good old internet makes it all worse then it is
Have never had it on my HMR that's had over 2000 down it, few split necks that cause it to jam up even them could count the jam ups on my hands
Does that mean all semi 22 mags do that?
Because between me and the old man we have 3 an have put several thousand rounds through them with no issues.
Dont have a magnum research one, but always liked the looks of them.
I'm drawn to the mountains and the bush, it's where life is clear, where the world makes the most sense.
Okay, did a google troll and the only reports that greghud describes are for the 17hmr.
I shoot left handed, and have one of the magnum research .22 mag's in question
From factory it has a small hole in the barrel right under the chamber which vents any excessive pressure variances into a multi hole rectangle gas block inside the forearm of the hogue stock. I also run a tiffy screw on can on the carbon wrapped barrel
Works mint as.
Using TT2 on my mobele
i had one in only last week, it was a 17hmr, had done the self distruct it then had been rebarreled to 22mag, the owner had 2 or 3 packets of ammo thru the new barrel when it discharged partly in battery, 6mm of case in the chamber, the rest exited via the ejection port, taking the extractor with it, the mag was fused into the receiver.
I is the third one I have seen personally, this year.
all 17hmrs are rebarreled as they come in because it is just a matter of time before they let go.

Any problems with the Rem597s in 22 mag?
Using TT2 on my mobele
yep, exactly the same.
