    Maniatis Suppressor or alternatives for 243

    I know a similar thread was posted 4 years ago but wanted to ask specifically about Maniatis Suppressors.
    What’s been people’s experiences with it? The only data I can find is a dated Rod & Rifle study from 2017. Not sure if specs have changed since.

    What other options should I consider and how short can I make the barrel? Twist rate is 1:10.
    I like the Maniatis ones as they only add about 3.5” - 3.75” Muzzle forward so can retain more barrel length if I want the suppressor right back to the front of the stock.

    get a dpt
    you can have 1" in front of the muzzle or 12" like I do

    just keep in mind that every one inch forward is about equal to 5 inchs behind the muzzle suppression wise

    yup second this, I use a DPT on my rem mag and 270win it's bloody good compromise between muzzle forward, weight and suppression.

    I have the carbon maniatis on a 308. Can’t fault it so far, relatively light and seems to be compatible in nose reduction to mates running dpts. Have had great same day service every time I’ve been in to see Greg.

    I rate Greg highly but Dpts are hard to beat. If you were is Chch I'd say go get a Maniatis and he will have it done that day for you. But being up in Auckland just use DPT as its closer and they do a bloody good job too.

    I have a fair bit of experience with the 243 & AI as my wife had one as her favorite rifles for years ,built on a Mod 7 as well as hunting all game here it was also used in Africa ,UK & Australia .In Australia l even used it to drop a Buffalo attacking a local stockman at a water hole at 114 paces.

    When we re-barreled it & had it suppressed the gunsmith supplied a chart they use in the UK for barrel length considerations. using the Rem 80grn loads as a base -

    24" = 3123 fps

    22" = 3055 fps

    20" = 2965

    18"= 2899

    16"= 2800

    We went with 18 "as the min allowing for pay off when suppressed & were very happy with it ,she only just changed to a to cheap to let go Sako Mod 75 in 7/08 l brought off here a couple of years ago, after a decade hunting with that Mod 7 243.

    BBTI - Ballistics by the Inch :: Calibers/Cartridges

    18inch is about as short as I would go for a general use rifle mines 18.5

    other calibers work better if you want something real short
