Maniatis Suppressors

I know the originals got some average reviews but I see in another thread they are apparently four generations in and improved now. I am particularly interested in the Alpine Lite model at 270grams and 3" muzzle forward. Im pretty damn happy with my DPT cans and it will take some convincing to make me change but the weight drop there over my magnum can is appealing.

Does anyone have experience with them and able to compare to the likes of DPT, Hardy and the older generations produced?

i rate my alpine lite as good as my dpt, its smaller and better balanced then the dpt and only a tad louder then my dpt due to smaller diameter but not loud enough to ring my ears which is the test for me built as good as anything else maybe better

Second the build quality and have two now and can’t fault them. Best service I’ve ever had suppressor was posted from ChCh to Auckland in a day.

Anyone tried the alpine lite on a short magnum? Curious how it would handle a 21” rem mag.

Just been scrolling through his facebook page and he does say the alpine lite was primarily designed for 223 - 308 but can handle up to 300 win mag. The carbon stealth looks cool too but no real gain over my current DPT. Would love to see them in action in person.

Got one on my 20inch wsm, been good as, don’t think it’s the alpine lite though, that’s a pretty small can and I’d say noise reduction on a big cal wouldn’t be that good

Have ordered an Alpine Lite for my 260, will report back sometime after its been put to use

Pretty keen to hear a report (rolling my own eyes at that one). I really like the dimensions, so it works well it could be perfect.

@308mate I've had the chance to fondle a couple of Manniatis cans and take a look at the gubbings.

It's a pretty conventional design with a couple of twists. I don't believe they can be taken apart once assembled. There's a big flat internal muzzle break to send gas back into the isolator tube. Then going forward there's a couple of baffles just like you'd expect. Where it differs is the brake and baffles are all machined out of one piece of 7075 though and placed inside of a nice carbon wrapped tube. The brake and baffles don't have a lot of meat to them and small amount of material used leaves it very much hollow with lots of volume for gas relative to the size.

I expect therefore they are as quiet as is claimed and the Rod & Rifle test is probably so out of date that it's meaningless now. Ultimately I decided against a Manniatis suppressor for myself though because 7075, no matter how you coat it, anodize it, whatever... isn't going to last nearly as long as SS or Ti and I was happy to accept a bit more weight for extra longevity/high volume shooting. I got something a bit more heavy duty.

They'd be great for rifles that don't have much muzzle blast. 223's, 300 blackouts etc. and for alpine rifles which aren't doing huge numbers of rounds. Anything you would happily run a DPT on without a SS baffle, I'd happily run a Manniatis suppressor on.

@Pommy Thanks for that mate. What did you end up getting?

I am considering one for a 18" 308 that will be used just for hunting so not heaps of shooting but I find it hard to commit without any actual data of their improvements. I wouldn't really run a stainless baffle unless I had to because I just don't want the extra weight, I'd rather just add two normal baffles on a DPT for that weight penalty and replace them when they wear out (so the 7075 bit probably isn't as relevant to me). That being said I suppose that the beauty of a DPT is you can replace the baffles as they go and see how it is holding up.

Doesn't sound great that you can't disassemble the Maniatis suppressors as you can't really see how it is holding up especially with your comments around how thin the material in the brake and baffle is.

I think the thing that everyone wants to see is some hard evidence of what the current generation of Maniatis suppressors are like compared to other options like DPT, Hardy etc. It is all very well to claim your suppressors are some of the quietest in the market now with a new design but actual DB reduction would be really useful to know.

I'd venture that is going to be a sticking point for a lot of people including me, though I know @stagstalker will give a no BS assessment.

I went with a Greystone 3K and paid a little extra to get a Ti brake to bring the weight down to 406g. My DPT MkII with a bonus SS baffle weighs 385g and is a bit larger. I'd estimate the 3K is a smidge louder (more mass in a smaller unit, so figures) but it sure soaks up the heat from long strings of fire with ease whereas the DPT is getting hot to the touch after 3-4. I can't take the 3K apart but I'm pretty sure it'll survive the heat death of the universe, let alone whatever I can throw at it.

Have got the can, first impressions on the 260 (19” barrel) are good but I am yet to shoot it etc. Will provide more feedback in due course

@stagstalker that is a sweet looking rifle. Is that one of the Hi Tec stocks? what Swaro? For some reason I thought you said you were going NX8.

Is that Maniatis painted or does it have a cover on it?

@308mate the stock is an unbranded trial for another forum member who is getting into making them. Swaro is a 3.5-18x44 Z5 with 4w reticle and two turn moa turret with zero stop removed. The NX8 coming is for my rem mag. Suppressor is painted I assume, it’s a matt black type surface. I used to use weka covers but on a large suppressor they add a bit of weight so moved away from them and just run them bare now.

Is the rear bush removable/ able to be changed out? Or is it integral

Rear bush threads out so will be able to use on same or smaller caliber rifle with same thread with another bush

Thank you. Definitely might be worth a look then. Want to bring the balance back on my 7mm08 so a lighter suppressor and 2" off barrel might do the trick

Alright I just got back from the range. Intent was to zero with the new suppressor. Results/ observations:

- Sound reduction/feel when firing was fine. Difficult to really tell in the closed environment and field shooting will provide a better gauge but no issues so far.
- The suppressor has a bit of play when tightening firm on the thread. All my others basically hit the shoulder of the thread and go firm straight away where as this one takes another good half turn plus as you feel it bitting in.
- Accuracy with my 142 LRAB load went from accurate to scatter gun. Wasn't even on the paper at first. Instead of sub moa it is now 2" groups. I suspect the change in harmonics has completely messed with what already was a super fussy load.

Intent from here is to see if I can work up a new load with the 135 classic hunters that I have already tentatively done load dev for with the old hardy suppressor. If it doesn't shoot well trying to do a load with those then it will get flicked but I expect it should be fine.

Interesting observation. This would have been a good opportunity to shoot a group with an without suppressor. To go from from sub moa to 2moa with the exact same load is pretty severe.

Maybe a bad day behind the trigger or your load isn't a constant sub moa performer?

Would have been interesting experiment anyway with the only change being the suppressor.

what thread? mine got done 1/2 x 28 and its not a solid thread compared to my bergara 14x1 got told not to overtighten it because it can/ will strip threads only do it up
hand tight and no more it will go more but was told not to

Thread is M14x1 and the Hardy screws on quite different, goes nice and firm straight away. I would give myself a severe look in the mirror if 2" groups were my own doing lol, the 22LR I had with me went fine so my shooting should not have been an issue.

I wish I had taken the Hardy with me so I could have swapped straight back and confirm it was still good, not that it has shot bad since doing the load so I don't really doubt the rifle.

Think I over exaggerated that a bit, more like a quarter turn to go firm.

Intresting keep us posted I did a can vs no can shoot off 2 weeks ago the load was developed without the dpt and is an honest inch always 2 shots ontop of each other and a 3rd that opens it from .2-.5 to 1 moa every time cant/havent bothered to pursue any further tuning as it's a point shoot hunting rifle and it's always the 3rd shot in a string that's out. Interestingly as per every other 3 shot group that's what it printed 1 inch high and dead center for the first to and the 3rd half inch to the right this time tidy tidy group. With the dpt it was near the exact the same pattern if I cut it out and over layed it elevation was the same but the group moved over 1.5 from centre. Bloody handy

Another update, have been re doing a load with the 135 classic hunters. I think i’ve found the spot but i’m away with work
again for a bit so will have to finish that later. I never imagined such a large POI shift but it’s definitely quite a difference. Will
be a wee while until I can report on it out hunting sorry.

Sold it. Not the suppressors fault, just had another niggle with the rifle I had to sort and then didn’t want to burn any more ammo so sold it and stayed with what was already setup.

I've got a maniatis on my 16 inch kimber hunter in 308 and it shoots bloody well. I personally can't hear the difference between the maniatis and dpt so defintely doing something right.
