    $500-odd was for me about 6 or 7 weeks wages back then (semi skilled type work)

    A young guy today could buy a new mannlicher in say 4 weeks?

    Just making the point that when calculated in “hours labour” many of our modern toys, tools and necessities are significantly cheaper to purchase than 40 years ago.

    There are exceptions eg milk at 4c/pint!
