Mapping software - what is currently considered best?

Got a Rhino that needs some mapping software.

What's the best one to get? North and South Island. Marine not needed as have chart plotter etc on the boat already.

    Proudkiwi

I currently use Freshmaps in my Rino 650's.

    They work great for me.

    Cheers

I use Freshmap on GPS and also have the pc based version so that I can plot stuff out in advance. Works fine, but mine is a 2008 version so a little out of date. I am seriously considering getting Maptoaster as replacement as it has DOC boundaries as well as satelite image overlay. Maptoaster is $189 for the pc/gps suite so not bad value either

Does freshmaps offer anything over map toaster at all? I like the idea of doc boundaries.

The only feature that I can find on freshmap that maptoaster does not have, is the ability to create elevation profiles from tracks.
The doc boundaries only appear on the GPS based map with maptoaster, and not on the pc version. This is not a biggy as you can simply use wams online to ID them.

Im Not a fan of Fresh maps... I have it on my GPS and am finding I am downloading the Linz maps for the area im going to each time and disabling the freshmaps. and because you can only have up to 2 maps on at once . Up side is it is absolutely free!

Not sure why you would do that TSK. Sounds like you are just making work for yourself. Freshmap is more than adequate and the mapping is taken straight from Linz anyway.

Pretty sure you can change the colour scheme on most gps units

Can't you just use the NZ mapping project maps in the Rhino? They are brilliant.
