    Marlin 795 feeding problems

My mate bought a new Marlin 795 a few months ago and right from day one it wouldn't feed to well. It jams every 4 rounds or so, sometimes the bolt doesn't quite close enough, sometimes it catches the fresh round halfway along its case and bends it in the chamber sometimes it just fails to pick a round up. We have tried different magazines in it from my 795 and it would have had over 500 rounds through it now and has been cleaned etc on a few occasions. I'm guessing the magazine well is out of place but haven't had a decent look since I come up with this theory. Anyone else had the same kind of problems? My 795 runs flawlessly.

Yeh, I had problems with mine along the lines you describe. (Mind you those symptoms can have many causes.) Mine was caused by ME unknowingly bending a wee bit of the mechanism. I got almost to the point of needing physiatrist help - swapped mags no change, got a mag off a Papoose no change, different ammo no change. Then pulled it apart and worked out how it functions and bingo found the bent bit. May not be the cause in your case but I will find the exploded parts manual and PM it to you. They are otherwise absolutely 100% reliable (I almost said bullet proof) as you know yourself. The other thing if it is new and under warranty he should camp up at the place he bought it.

Plastic or wood? I am with Z on his fault finding as I had the same problem. Got a new boyds stock and after inletting and a wee bed job its all good.

The bit I bent (ejector) affected how high the cartridges sat in the mag once the mag was inserted in the gun. It held them down off the mag lips and although the breech bolt still picked them up on the way fwd they wouldn't chamber correctly and ended up crooked and sometimes bent. I bent the ejector somehow whilst reassembling the gun with a new Boyds stock. I tried all sorts - different mags, different ammo, bending the mag lips (always a disaster) and then went back to basics in that the gun had worked perfectly b4 I had it apart.

Sweet thanks for that, I will pull both of ours apart and compare the two. Many thanks!

So after savage1 never telling me the outcome of this thread I stumbled across it today and gave it a try, BANG ON!
I must have bent it slightly when reassembling the rifle. Took it apart and gave it a tweak and seems to have sold my issues. Was only having problems when down to the last few rounds as the pressure built up in the magazine spring would have been released and not have been enough left to overcome the downward force excreted from the ejector.

    Thanks a lot Zimmer
