    Marlin X7 308Win

Been looking at a bigger calibre to add to the cupboard.
Seen a Marlin X7 308win at local H&F with cheapo Hawke 3-9x40 mildot scope. Cheap deal for a new rifle.
Feels OK to shoulder. Action feels smooth. Stock rather plasticy, but Boyds do a nice laminate for them.
    Blind mag (4+1), 1:12 twist, 22" barrel.

Anyone got one of these rifles? How do you rate it? Cheers

No but 308 is the caliber of kings.

1 in 12 twist would limit your projectile choice tho. 168 amax might fly?
165 less slippery bullets should go tho and the likes of 130ttsx should fair fly if someone hasnt cut it in half.

    Cheers VC.
It'll be mainly a hunting tool with the odd play on gongs, so 168's would be fine.

Might have to look a lot closely at the deal I'm thinking......

    I've got a Marlin X7 in .270 - bought it second hand.

Had a few issues with the mounting rail and broken screws - easy fix (research suggests common fault). A few new screws, some loctite and a bit of expoxy on the rail. I also - strengthened the foreend of the stock with some of that 'Ballistic Research' epoxy resin - seems to have done the trick. A lot more rigid and consistent when shooting off the bipod. It's primarily the old mans rifle and he has no troubles hitting a 8" plate at 350 yards using factory ammo - more than accurate enough for him.

For the price can't go wrong!

I still have my xs7 in my 708, was my first CF. I now also have other rifles in different calibers but will not sell the marlin, it shoots incredibly well for its value. Cannot go wrong, has a decent soft recoil pad, user adjustable trigger. Great value.

Yeah I brought one few years back as a "fill in rifle" in 308 and used it as a bush gun. Was a good shooter ( shot moa with hand loads ) and was bloody good value for the $$$

I see that HnF are currently selling em for $599 ( shit that's good buying ) with a shitty scope & like hunter said flick that & put a VX1 or Bushy Elite on it, will be a good sub $1000 set up
Shoot it, root it & then BBQ it !!!

was looking at getting the marlin for my first cf rifle but i also see the rem 770 is selling for $599 whereas the marlin is $799 which would a more experienced person recommend and what caliber ? mostly for an all rounder at the moment .

Get the marlin. I had a play with a 770 and hated it, finish was the worst of any of the budget rifles i handled and the accuracy reports arnt that flash for it either.
Mate has the XS7 in 7mm08, shoots MOA with handloads, my only gripe with it was a blind mag, hardly a deal killer but I prefer hinged Floorplate.

The Ruger americans can be had for $750 in stainless, and they feel like a decent rig, worth a look too.

I have one in the 7mm08 and it serves me very well for the bush hunting I do. I like it but that said it's my first rifle so I don't really have anything to compare it to. On top of that, I don't know much about the technical side of rifles. I did have a little trouble with the accu-trigger not running smoothly but it came right with some oil and a bit more use. Does the job I require of it.
    Yeah nah bro

my mates one has the rough chatter machining marks in the bore when you look into the muzzle.
I would look into a few of them (muzzles) if you can and pick the best. his shoots a dinner plate at 200 with the standard scope and hes ok with that. (708)
