    Mauser K98.

G'day, I bought a Mauser K98 7.62 Nato from a gun shop in South Africa back in 1980. A friend of mine, who is living in Taupo now, ended up owning it in around 1990. He is considering selling it and has no idea what it would fetch these days. From memory, the stock has a few clear swastika imprints, the barrel is excellent and the action tight. Unfortunately, when I was purchasing it, I went through all the other rifles to find the best fitting bolt. Thus the numbers no longer match the action...
It comes with a bayonet and many rounds. If there is interest, I shall ask him to send pics. Cheers.

If waffen marked on the stock and it’s in original condition ie not sanded then it’s probably worth a second look.

7.62 K98 possibly sounds like an Israeli? Then again if it’s been drilled and tapped for a weaver ring scope then it’s value drops. If the rear and front sight is removed, crest/manufacture code scrub and or rebarreled with a modern one then it definitely sits in the sporter category.

Heaps of possibilities here without a picture. It’s like guessing which horse is going to win the Melbourne Cup without seeing the lineup.

It is Israeli. No mods other than the barrel. Pics soon hopefully.

So I would like a brief history lesson here.
A Nazi K98 mauser but some Israeli connection.

Why would the Israeli's want anything do to with a weapon ( not this particular one ) that was probably was used for the final solution .
Did Israel take in alot of surplus / refurbished weapons after the war ?

israel was a fledgling nation that needed to arm itself. there were alot of spare parts and unissued 98s captured at the end of the war. i think from memory the isreali builds were doe in czech and belgium? ..... using nazi actions with new 7.62 nato barrels

They needed weapons so that they could turn on and attack the British Embassy and the King David Hotel and kill the innocent officials who had been helping them.

Not the 7.62x51 that entered service in 1954, What makes you think that the British were helping the Israelis? they were more of a hinderance than a help
they stopped them arming them selves right up to May 14 1948 any Jew found with firearms was hanged I don't call that helping and no I am not a Jew.

I am talking about Israelis specifically not Jews as such. Palestine was annexed by the British who had control of it to provide the European Jews with a new start. A bold move considering Palestine took no part in the war. Instead of gratefully accepting a peaceful transition to a harmonious Holy Land welcoming all, David Ben Gurion and the other terrorists decided to kill or drive out all other groups and take control of the territory a policy that Israel continues with to this day.
