Has anyone had any first hand experience with the M18? It's one of very few rifles I'm able to buy in 30-06 brand new. Reviews seem to rate them well above average, but what's your thoughts? As a general carry around rifle

Nothing wrong with them. Great stock. Excellent trigger. Well made. Accurate. On the heavy side. No after market stocks available to lighten them up (trigger guard is part of the stock and the bedding system makes it tricky). Mine in 6.5prc was excellent. Only moved it on cos I was disappointed with the caliber.

I like mine. It's in .308. Seems to shoot well. Like the last guy said, there's minimal aftermarket mods for it. I'd buy another. I've watched a fair few reviews on it and they all are pretty fair. Mine feeds and cycles really smoothly.
If you do have any issues, not many people know much about them. Also, m18 is a really common metric thread size, so googling m18 bolt for example doesn't bring back relevant Info

Love mine in .223. Its one of two plastics I have. I use it as a hack, the trigger is very very nice and is comparable to the best German stuff I have. I have found a nice load that works well. The only gripe I have is the mag been a bitch to reload.Quote:

i had one, liked it, zippy sound from the bolt when worked, not a lot of after-market options tho. for the price i'd recommend it. cheap n cheerful

Big fan of the factory trigger, rate them on par with my tikkas.if not slightly better

I have one in .308 and I love it. It shoots very well and with Lapua match ammo I have achieved almost one hole, three shot groups. Even with 80’s vintage ADI F4 ball I was getting 3/4 inch groups. I don’t run exotic optics on it. Just a Bushnell Engage 3-9x40 with the deploy reticle in Talley mounts. I wanted a rifle that I might use once or twice a year so did not want to drop a lot of cash on the whole package. I opted for a Sonic 45 can for it which has proven to be a very nice bit of kit.
So for me I was able to put $1040 across the counter and walk out with a bare rifle that had the following features:

Blaser barrel
Remington 700 LA scope mounting footprint
Fully adjustable trigger
Three position safety
Five shot detachable magazine
Cocking indicator

So yeah for a rifle that I will not use that often, I rated it as possibly the best value I could find and as stated I really like it. The only observations I have are that the safety catch, depending on the proximity of game, may need to be ridden into the fire position or it can make an audible click if just flicked forward. The safety is a good size so riding it forward with the thumb is easy. The twin ejector plungers need an ever so slight forceful closing of the bolt in the last 5mm of travel to compress them but the trade off of this is that spent brass is ejected very forcefully by those plungers. After the first 20 or so rounds you don’t notice it any more so it’s not really an issue.

Thanks for the feedback! Ended up getting a blued M18 flin 30-06 for $899 new! Will be getting it cerakoted, and will keep posted on how it goes!
I would imagine that their blueing will be ok if its looked after a bit.
well there are many mausers floating around the show at or over a cantury old with origonal blueing still doing the job after all.....they might have learnt a thing of two over that time LOL.
My mauser has factory ceracote and I wouldn't write home about it. I'd almost prefer blued seeing how the bluing wears off on the bolt ect.

99% sure it was our mate 257weatherby who redid his in a deep blue coating of some sort...made a stainless steel rifle appear to be blued.

Yeah a lot of rifles that are factory cerakoted suffer from a sub par job. Getting it done from @BigEarl69 who did a previous rifle I owned, the finish was excellent

What was wrong with the caliber? Just asking as im considering a 6.5 again and ive had a 6.5CM before and know it well, but never a PRC. Its between those 2 for me at the moment but ive got all the reloading stuff for the CM sk if PRC is a waste of time then ill just get a CM.Quote:
