    Mauser trigger angles

    Right. Got an issue.
The parker hale project has hit a snag.
For some history, this has had a sporting type bolt fitted to an old Parker Hale safari with the original 98 2 stage trigger.
It was quite a heavy and draggy trigger but after what thought was some very minor stoning and polishing I've managed to make it so that after taking the weight up on the first stage it doesnt come back. Trigger is floppy. Little bit of a push by the spring (action out of stock) and it returns with a little click
So it either needs a finer polish or I've managed to cock the angle up. Or both.
The stoning was mainly done in an effort to get the striker to clear the sear when the safety was engaged. Hopefully a better trigger was a bonus
I did succeed in that at least but not happy with the
And no it doesn't feel quite as draggy
    And yes I am.considering a timney but that's later.
I disnt touch the contact face on the striker. I would rather replace a buggered trigger than a striker.
    Thoughts anyone?

I can give you a mauser trigger that has been altered to be single stage by welding a bit on the front and then putting in a screw which adjusts the seer engagement.

Well Gary I will take you up on that offer.
But I would still like to know what I've done wrong.
This sort of thing intrigues me and very likely wont be the last time I do this.
I actually did a little cheat I read somewhere else and put a rod in the spring to limit trigger over travel as well as a piece of shim between the trigger stage lumps and action to do something similar.
Disnt get too far with the shims and just not happy with the trigger reset @Walker I do agree but this is something I'd like to learn to get right

@grandpamac yip I hear you but I'm sure it would be safe if it's done properly.
Just nowhere as good a trigger as the timney

    Greetings Csmiffy,
The flaw with the military triggers is that half the trigger group is attached to the receiver and half on the bolt rather than all in one box as with commercial triggers. Mauser bolts are a loose fit and the first stage is used to take up the slack. If that stage is removed it removes an important part of the safety system. We used to modify military triggers decades back when there were few other options. There are plenty of options now. I have heard enough stories of rifles going bang when they were not supposed to to sour me on fiddling with military triggers.
    Regards Grandpamac.

@grandpamac wasnt trying to remove second stage. Just a bit of a polish which I have obviously buggered up
@nor-west I can get them for cheaper than that and it is on the cards but not until I have to.
If a little more polishing gets it back to standard, that will get me shooting it Sunday for a trial and maybe a hunt on monday-Tuesday

PM me your address and I'll send you Kuhnhausen's Mauser shop manual. If you don't return it after reading it than I'll send your soul to a deep and dark place in my heart (why oh why don't people send books back )

Mauser two stage triggers can be gotten to the "superb" level by a knowledgeable person as long as they don't follow the stupid " fashion" for single stage triggers on designs not suited to them

If you're thinking of a timney, I'd buy one now as timney stopped production of their 98 Mauser triggers, so any you find will be old stock.
