    Meopta scope repair

    Good day,
I purchased a used Meopta Artemis a while back and the scope is starting to show its age after some use. Bubbles/ specs have formed inside the glass. I sent it off to Killwell to see if they can assist with a repair, but they confirmed that the scope is out of warranty and Meopta do not have parts to fix it. It's an FFP scope with a really cool 4b reticle, so I would like to get it repaired. Does anyone know of someone that might be up for the task locally?
    I am down in Dunedin.
    Cheers

The 2 guys that I know that use to repair scopes have long retired and are no longer in the game. Dont think theres anybody that does independent scope repairs any more. You could try contacting Meopta themselves and see if something can be done.

That is an odd response from Killwell. About a year ago, I sent my Meopta E3 scope to Killwell because there were bits of black floating around inside the scope. There were no parts available but they sent it back to the factory in Europe and the bits were cleaned out and the scope sent back, all OK. Killwell did offer to swap the scope for a significant reduction on a new one but I'm not sure about Meopta build quality (see below), so I did not take them up on that offer The E3 model is significantly older than the model that you have. And the problem that you have of bits inside the scope sounds like the same problem I had. I've looked through eight Meopta scopes and three of them had bits floating around inside. It seems to be a very common problem with Meopta which I have never seen mentioned in any review on the web. I am surprised that Killwell did not send the scope back to have the floaties cleaned out because it is a factory fault, and NZ consumer law covers this sort of area pretty well (if you take the legal action road, you have a claim against the NZ retailer who will push it up the chain to the importer).
In terms of warranties, the only ones, in my experience, that mean the real deal are Leupold and, to a lesser extent, Sightron. 'Lifetime' can mean many restrictive interpretations, none of which are likely to support the purchaser. I've tried Bushnell, Weaver, Zeiss, Swarovski, Redfield, Hertel & Reuss. The companies are not really optical sight companies but giant, anonymous holding corporations that shuffle ownership around like cards at the table. European developments in legislation to control wastage may lead to better warranties in the future (readily repairable products that have long term parts backup).

    You could try https://opticalrepairs.com.au/ - they have a good reputation . . . .

Thanks for the replies. I bought the scope on TM and not a retailer. I will try the optical repair. I had an old burris that had stuff inside and Beretta replaced it with a brand new scope, no questions asked.

A bit off topic, kinda, but I had a look at some meopta scopes in H&F yesterday and for the money I genuinely think they are unbeatable for quality. I was very impressed. The only negative I could find with them is they are a touch heavy for their size.
