Thread: Missing bolt

OK folks i got given this today by an old fella its a SPORTCO Model 40 .22





Only problem is he can't remember where he put the bolt, reckons he has turned the place upside down looking for it, with no joy !?!

Rifiling looks immaculate and I'm keen to find a bolt for it as reckon it would be a great starter rifle for my young fella.

Anyone have any ideas where i might find one.

There has been a number of 22 bolts come up on Tardme lately, not too expensive. would need to get a pic of the bolt you require and compare it to the ones for sale.

You see the occasional one turn up here on firearms sales site, I will keep an eye out for you.

If I had a dollar for every time I couldn't find something!. He will have had a man look like I get accused of so getting someone else to have a look at his place would be a good place to start and if it is found you would then have the correct bolt.

I have the exact same model I inherinherited from my father in law.
I can take some close ups of the bolt and post it here later today so that everyone has an idea what they are looking for.

The other rifle i got from him was a 303 with no bolt !
Same deal ... he had put It somewhere cunning and i never was found even when he died and we cleaned out the house !
Pretty common I guess.

Yup the gunsmith dude at the gunclub said much the same thing.
back when people only had a one deer rifle and or a 22, the mag and or bolt would get taken out and hidden in the sock drawer or shed. Maybe a house move in the middle and a lack of use and they get forgotten about. I was after a stock and mag for a 22 project.
The mags are dear as but the rifles turn up quite a bit with the mag missing.

@kukuwai here is my Sportco Model 40

I just finished completely refinishing the metal work as a practice piece for cold rust bluing.
It was in absolutely awful condition never having been cleaned or dried by the look of it.
So a good practice as pretty well the worst case scenario for restoration or refinishing.
Maybe the flashest model 40 in nz now !

The knurled bolt end / grip to cock the striker is very distinctive and will be the main give away if you are looking through various bolts

A quick squiz through Usedguns.com.au this morning and looky what I found.

If you want I can get it for you, might take a while, then remove the bolt and send it to you, or I could strip it down completely and post bits and pieces over, might take a bit of fucking around as I would have to apply for a permit to acquire for the rifle, usually takes a couple of weeks. Anyway, have a think about it and we may be able to work something out.
