    Misty scope ....

Out hunting in the rain two weeks ago and boy did it chuck it down..

The Tasco varmint scope on my 223 got pretty wet ... And since then hasn't anything other than misty despite having plenty of TLC including a nice warm airing cupboard to sleep in and a damned good clean and dry.

I'll make this simple. Is it foxed ?

    As above yep.
You might get it to clear up but any temp change it will fog again.take it back and get another under warranty.

    Im not sure that's a good idea.

Even if you heat it and drive the moisture out it will suck in moist air as it cools and fog internally the first time you need it.
Water got in cos the gas got out. The seals are rooted bin it or claim it.

I have just replaced mine for the same reason.... it is not worth getting them cleaned and re gassed. (depending on the scope value)
Mind you my old one took a beating on a rock with my full body weight on top and still lasted another year.
I have been told the best way to test the air tightness this is to freeze the scope and when it comes out you will know pretty much straight away if there is moisture in there cause it is frozen on the inside of the glass.
    Happy shopping Kiwi39!

I think he -might- be joking. Sometimes hard to tell with Jaapies .

He could be serious, I noticed a glazed look in his eyes when we were up in Vegas, but put it down to him pining for the High Veld ... Hard to know

Happened to a redfield scope of mine on a hunt, and 10 min later I came across a deer. Lucky I nailed him on the 3rd shot looking through the foggy scope on a rainy day.

My understanding is the scopes seal is broken and the anti fog gas inside has leaked out, throw away and get a new one.
