Mixed Lee-Enfield bolts
Son has a fairly tidy No4 303, it’s been sitting in my safe and I eventually took the rifle back to him.
Problem was the bolt- or rather bolts!
Thing is, I had two bolts for a No4 and neither of them match the number on his No4 but both fit.
Is there any way to tell which one is the correct one?
Both bolt heads seem to identical in length.

Get the head space checked with a go /no go gauge.

Theres a bit more to it than that, trigger/sear/cocking piece relationship as well as the bolt rib fitup in the action body and whether the lugs fit.
Old 303's with random numbers are a bloody good example of why bolts are better in their respective rifles.
