    Model 7, 7mm08 - new barrel?

I've had this old model 7 for 5 years now. It was used when I bought it and after some decent troubleshooting with the stock, scopes and ammo have decided it's time for a new barrel.

Can someone please point me in the right direction to find a new/near new replacement? Is the process of changing calibre a major or worth consideration?

708 is a fine cal but you do have the choice of 308,6.5creed,243,260 and any others that pop up in the time you are looking that are based on the 308 family case

its cost me roughly 100ish for a fitting in the past, and about 150ish upwards for a new take off barrel

often the cal stamp doesnt line up so be prepaired for that

why do you think the barrel you have is poked out of interest?
Id cut it short as fuck first if it is a throw away and see if its any better accuraccy wise. its gone both ways for me in the past, both more and less accurate on different rifles

Any choice from the 308 family will fit straight in. 308 is probably your best choice based on current ammo availability.

Second hand barrel $100 to $300 plus $100ish for fitting.

    New barrel fitted $1000

Cheers bill, i might cut it back a bit further to see if that provides any improvement. I've struggled to get a good group out of it no matter what i did and have cut it down to its current length, the rifling appeared to be worn at the crown.

if its just the crown then a few inchs might do the trick
there are little gauges that will tell if the bore is worn if you get a local gunsmith to have a quick look
I had my brno counterbored to maintain the front sight back before I came around to short barrels as there was wear at the muzzle end
    it improved the accuraccy

trademe is a good place to find second hand barrels
try get a brand new take off barrel if you can then its at least brand new and they go for basically the same price as a used one
people are still taking them off all the time to build custom guns
I believe rem700 barrels have the same thread but a slightly thicker profile but im no rem expert so best to confirm that
you would need to sand the barrel channel out a little and re-varnish it is all

That rifle doesn’t look like it’s been used alot.

I had a rifle that I didn’t think was shooting right as it had a shit tonne of rounds down it…. I had it bedded as I thought the wood stock was warped as it had been on a few rainy trips, nope… still wasn’t grouping so I had the barrel cut back 2 inches as I thought the crown was out.

Nope, still wasn’t grouping so I thought I’d sell it for a new rifle and was stripping it when I discovered the front scope mount screw was loose…. I tightened the screw and kicked myself after shooting a nice tight group

If your after a new barrel, ring around and see if gunworks or even gun city Christchurch have anything.
