    Model 700 7mm SAUM rechamber

    Hi Guys,

Have tried searching and not having much luck,

I have a Remington M700 in 7mm08, have owned it for years. Has a 18inch barrel and a hardy coke can on the end. I'm looking at the possibility of further down the track rechambering to a 7mmSAUM and then moving my 7mm magnum on. Is this a possibility? I'm happy to rebarrel it and appreciate there is cost around it. Basically just wanting to know if I keep on with this old girl or go to a full custom down the line. Was thinking 18-20 inch and keeping my current suppressor. Faster twist to hopefully shoot the heavier projectiles and would single feed if need be for these.

    Any help/comments is appreciated. Thanks

You will need to get the bolt face opened up, as well as maybe different mag box and follower. Ideal opportunityto fit an extented mag box for longer rounds.

Nice idea, will keep an eye on this as could be the future a model 7 that’s gathering dust.. I’d have thought you may need a magnum suppressor? One of the clear heads here will know. All the best for the build mate.

You’d be better off going with 284 , no need to piss around with bolt face and you’d be giving fark all in velocity.

What's wrong with your Magnum other than it's an old chambering so not as cool as a SAUM. You'll get the same speed or better for the same bullet with easier to find brass and dies. By all means get a SAUM if that floats your boat but I'm struggling to see what you are gaining here other than a shorter action which definitely makes deer deaderer.
The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice. And because we fail to notice that we fail to notice, there is little we can do to change; until we notice how failing to notice shapes our thoughts and deeds

My vote will be don't bother.

Looks like you have a nice stainless Remmy with a HS precision stock, I'd just leave it as is and ramp up the load development on the 7mm08.

An SST loaded hot will be about all you can get for that length of barrel, why go through all the trouble for the sake of 200fps (at best?)

Rechambering to 284 or 7SAUM is going to de-value the rifle as well, wait till you toast the factory barrel (if it actually happens) then worry about a new chambering then.

I have a rem 700 short action rechambered to 284 it was a 708 and with wyats new 3.2 mag extender for it makes the project even simpler . Extend the mag and rechamber not super expensive and you will have a bit more than a 708 .That would be cheaper than going magnum .

Hardys open bolt faces and buy a wyats i think their call extended wsm mag box and magnum can . I get where your coming from if your reducing to one rifle im a fan of short and light love short actions and the saums far more efficient out of the shorter barrels near 3000fps out of 20" with 168 bergers is pretty deadly . Sure the deer wont no any difference but your the one using it so fuck what the deer think
