    Mossberg 590

I want to look into a mossberg 590 with just a pistol grip, no stock. Will it still be A-cat?

As long as its still longer than 762mm then yes, it will still be an A cat.

You won't want a barrel shorter than 20" (i.e a 18" one) or you will run into trouble keeping it above the legal length of 762mm Ruger mentions. My 500 has a 18 inch barrel and if I were to fit a pistol grip it falls just under an inch too short. If I put a folding stock on it might give it the little bit extra length it needs. I prefer a stock but each to their own eh.

I saw that on a big retailers site, they would be way under 762. I dont see how they can get away with selling them.
completly and utterly impracticle. I couldnt hit shit with mine with the pistol grip on and no stock, plus the stocks you buy are shit and poorly set up so they nolonger point well.

a simple mossy 500 mavric in 8shot with the standard stock is the same rifle with just a slightly lighter barrel and no heat shield. much better way to spend 400 rather than what ever the 590s sell for.
not good for anything but home defence tho, they are no good for feather or fur shooting. so dont go thinking it will be good for anything other than impressing your little wigger mates

the 5 shot 26 inch barrel version is a very good priced highly usefull shotgun.

they design them to clear rooms at close range, not put a consistant pattern at 50m

they are not a hunting or sporting gun.

you will get very frustrated with them trying to use them for something they are not designed for.

I have had a lot of success using a 20" Maverick 88 for rabbit and possum shooting. I find Bills comments inconsistant with my experiance. I hate carting around shotguns with long arse barrels. The short barreled guns are 1000x more useful when shooting out of or off the back of a vehicle.

I think he was meaning the pistol grip. Way to get a sore wrist.

Max range probably 25 yards? Using Falcon No.2 shot 40 gram. Had no trouble knocking rabbits over at that range and in. Mostly shooting around scrub. Spotlighting and twilight shooting for fun. Found there was no functional differance between that and my 28" barreled Maverick, except the short barrel was handier and it was nice having a couple more rounds in the tube. The Gun City 22" 870 has a choked barrel. Would be a good compromise if you wanted a little more range and a handier gun. But I just use a .22 if I want more range.
