Mounting new Burris, doesn't fit current rings?

Just went to put the new Burris Sig 3-15x44 on my Rem700 w/ Talley rings (low I think) and it doesn't fit length ways on the rings. I was hoping to sit it in there and adjust back for forth to set my eye relief but the big jump from tube to ocular end on the Burris is hitting the base of the rings. Part of mounting it on was also to see if the new 44mm obj. lens came to close to the barrel and it looks like it does.

So I suppose new rings are necessary but what type of rings do I need to provide sufficient eye relief adjustment? Even if the current rings were high enough such that the scope wasn't touching anywhere, I would still have less than an inch to play with horizontally for eye relief.

Any tips appreciated. Also worth noting that I was going to take it in to Rivers to Ranges on Sunday to be sighted in anyway so do I just take the whole setup there and let James sort it out? Cheers

yep looks like new rings or a rail and rings is going to be an option.

First I'd check that the eye relief was ok at that position, and then i would mitre off the rear corner of the base of the ring. Its well hidden under there and not difficult to make a very neat job of it.

Is the front touching because the rear is being held up?

Ie like these Burris Zee rings or the larger Signature XTR rings. That will stop that bit at the back hitting the scope and possibly let you move it forward.
Could you flip those mounts around so that long base is facing forward?
Ps I have filed down the end of a rail on one of my rifles to stop that happening and let me get the scope a little lower and further forward.

@jpurdon I definitely think your best option would be to get a rail fitted, as it'll allow you to move the rings around to a point where you can get sufficient eye relief, and, should add enough height that you'll still be able to run low rings, without contact with the barrel

Rail will give you options later on if you change scopes again.

I think I'll just take it in to R&R with current rings on etc and can just buy what I need when I'm in there, will link into the rail option

Had the same on my Tikka with Talley low rings.
Just changed to medium probably solved.

same issue for me. I went medium Talley and faced the ring the other way at the front. Eye relief is fine for me. I would fit it in the shop to ensure you are happy with eye relief.

Separate bases not integral, will give you more options but a picatinny rail will give you a plethora of options.

Yea, you'll likely need rings and bases (or a rail & rings), so that you can move the rings back and fourth on the rail/ pic bases

Had this issue with a night force mount. And i had less room than hou have on the front so I went and re mounted my Rem bases and popped a set of leupold prw rings on. Problem solved.

Will the back ring not work if you turn it around?
