Mounts for Howa
I recently bought a second hand Howa with a 22" barrel in .270 win and a houge stock. It will be used as it is for a few years, and then perhaps used a project (thinking .280AI) or maybe just left as is.
It came with a cheap set of alloy bases and rings, and I wouldn't trust them. I am looking for recommendations for a new set of mounts. My problem is that I have used Sako's and Rugers all my life and of cause used the propriety mounts that come with those brands and hence I don't know much about standard bases and rings.
I look at a EWG 0 moa rail, which would be good as it gives plenty mounting of options, but expensive and heavy(?), and would have to buy rings on top of that again. Gunworks are selling Talley one piece bases with lower ring incorporated, these appeal as would strong and light but are aluminum.
Opinions on these and what other options should I consider? Oh just intending to shoot out to 350-400 max.

The bases are leupold, yes they are aluminium but are all good, I chucked the nasty Nikko rings that came with my 2 howas and replaced with weaver grandslam steel rings on the one and burris zee rings on he other. Both shoot sub MOA so I don't think the leupy bases are an issue, you can replace with a rail if you want or Remington 700 bases fit.
Really the choice is huge, there are a set of weaver grandslams on TM at the moment for $80.

In used the EGW rail on mine, with Leupod QPR rings. Had no issues, but weight wasn't a concern of mine. The rings and bases are a lot cheaper if you bring em in from the states btw.

The one piece DNZ mounts seem to get good reviews. I have an EGW 20MOA rail on mine. They're good.
