MSSA Overall Length Update

This could have some unintended consequences, there is a general consensus in the air gun world not too try and push the limits of legalities but "If" the Police are coming out with very clear interpretations like this (ie if its under 762mm its a pistol) that would mean I could go and buy one of those 50 cal dragon slayer PCP rifles (which require a FAL) put a folding stock on it and presto a 50 cal pistol that I can sell to anyone over 18 (for those that dont know a PCP rifle requires a FAL a PCP pistol does not)

To me it really is common sense ( if 1st post is correct )

Im sure the thinking would be so it cannot be stowed away as easy, Under seats etc

"common sense" is the worst label to apply to anything, because generally it means "I haven't thought about this too hard"


Is there a major problem with E endorsed FAL holders stowing rifles under seats currently?

Also I've never seen a policeman with a tape measure and they don't even look at my endorsed guns when they've done security checks etc so meh

I took @Ryan hunting a month or so ago, his Sig spent most of the time folded and slung while we were traversing messy guts, helps in that kind of situation, hardly makes it conceal able.

Nothing has been publicly gazetted by the NZ Police in relation to this. Even if it was, the NZ Police DO NOT have the authority to interpret law, as the Police have repeatedly been told by courts.

IF the NZ Police decide to charge someone for their 'new policy ' and seek to have it enforced by the courts, I would imagine it would be quickly ruled against.
-Courts have already ruled that it is measured in extended length.
- Police have approved the importation, sale and transfer of probably hundreds of MSSAs with a folded length of less than 762mm
- The NZ Police's own publications have shown a picture of a Type 56s under folder as an MSSA.

I am not concerned about this 'new policy '.

I am concerned that elements of the NZ Police are continuing with their anti-gun agenda.

I am concerned that the NZ Police have once again shown contempt for the courts and the legislative system of this country.

ALL should be held accountable.

Like I said in an earlier post, I acknowledge that nothing has been officially announced, what we know, we know through people who have had discussions with their AO's who have told them that this is the new policy from Wellington. The fact the colfo have publicly stated it probably means it is a thing. I don't know what their game would be really. They know fall well that there would be hundreds of MSSA's out there that would fall below the mark. Unless they were wanting to catch somebody out and go them for a conviction so they could get a precedent. That would be a pretty shitty underhanded way of going about it.

Until something is officially announced, I'm not frothing at the mouth/COMPLETELY OUTRAGED MUST TYPE IN CAPS.

COLFO have a real hit/miss approach for information, while it may be done with the very best intentions, they're rapidly become the "lets jump on the bandwagon brigade" which is a shame. Actual facts seem to take a back seat :-(

Why don't you just get proper bolt action hunting rifles and not have to worry about overall length, other people not being allowed to use it, or all the other shit that goes on with e-cat guns?

Got a few of those. Prefer hunting with my purpose built light weight AR to be honest.

its a question of choice, for me i have a buggered shoulder and semi-auto's make it more comfortable. and lets not forget this could be the thin end of the wedge and we end up losing things like 10/22's
attitudes like yours is why we have politicians that want to disarm us
