    muzzle brake maintanance

hi all, ive just got a megamax brake on a 300 rum, after putting a few rounds through it, saw some carbon buildup on it, so i just wonder how often i should be cleaning it and whats the best way to go about cleaning.

    Cheers

I remove mine after edge each shooting session and clean the thread. Otherwise, I do very little else expect a a wipe out with some Hoppes after ever 40-50 shots. This is only to kepp it looking clean.

When I shot NRA action pistol, my comp (a type of muzzle brake for a pistol) would get hundreds of round through it each day I shot. The carbon build up was quite something and a real bastard to remove. Basically you had to physically scrub it off after soaking in solvent.

Then a mate put me onto a spray welders use to keep splatter from a weld sticking to a metal surface. It comes in an aerosol can, simply spray in advance and the carbon will just wipe off with solvent after each session. I've been told lanolin works just as well too, but I haven't personally tried this?

Quick spray with brake cleaner and a wipe over after 30-40 rounds does the trick for me.
