Better balance with over barrell, not an issue for a bench/range rifle, muzzle forward can make the rifle barrel end heavy but has the advantage of not heating up the barrell as fast as an overbarell that will feel better balanced but will heat up quicker, also as you pointed out the muzzle forward will be more awkward to carry through confined spaces
