I’m exploring buying a muzzleloader so I can hunt the muzzleloader season in Arizona. Has anyone purchased a muzzleloader like this one? Not sure if they’re available in NZ or need to be imported for the US, I’ll keep doing the research to find out.

That is a cool muzzleloader! I would be very keen to get one of those. But at the moment I just want an Arizona Fish and Game legal muzzleloader that gives my son (he will have the tag) the best chance to take a decent elk.

Although that ones still not the real deal.
Got to have a flint on them to make them real. And a bigger hole down the end.

Surely you jest. The flint lock was a late comer. The real deal is the match lock and none of that fancy rifling stuff either.

I'm really foggy on the specifics at the USA Federal and State level, but a lot of muzzle loaders (percussion, flint, modern, traditional) aren't considered firearms in most of the USA, or at least aren't restricted to NZ citizens to purchase. You will definitely need to do your due diligence on this, but you may just be able to rock up and buy one while you're there for a hunt. There may be some limits on exporting one even though it might not be possession controlled inside the USA, and NZ would obviously want an import permit, but it's definitely a possibility worth considering.

If you have a connection there, they could get it reserved for you so you had the make/model/serial number for the NZ import permit (do that well in advance, I got jerked around last year on that and they issued me a permit the day after I came back to NZ despite being told repeatedly when I needed it for and applying well in advance). Again, I'm really fuzzy on this, but it is worth looking into.

Thanks for the tips. I will look into any export restrictions.

I have applied for an import permit already, so will see how that goes. I already have one for my rifle and apply for it each year 10 months in advance haha

As your import permit was too late, did you just not take your rifle? Were you hunting there?
