Greg Duley used to run a 240 Gibbs.

I had a 1:8 22/243 for a while, so fussy on loads and hard on brass, split necks, accuracy was 1.5 MOA at best . Truflight Rechamberd it to 22-250ai all problems disappeared. Brass is on 5-6 firing no trimming required, no primer pocket stretch, no split necks. Shoots .3MOA with 80.5 bergers and .5 with the 80g eldm. Blows heads to smithereens, shot deer out to 350m in the crease DRT. A treat to shoot. Basically a ballistic twin to the 22creedmoor and been available since the 70’s as a wildcat.
@Padox what did you try?
75gr eld-x with a bit of 2209 built her brass from some normal 6.5 brass but also had a go at making some 22-08 brass when I found some 7mm08 brass hiding amongst the brassAttachment 271506
Was a load that tentman gave me with her rifle @Tahr
@Tentman is now a her? He might be surprised to know that.
My dad's saying "when I was a little girl your age" . . . . It was a piss take but I never really figured out what it meant. A bit like the West Coast expression "anybody who calls you a fool has seen a few"!
First shots today. Bore sighted and shot at 25 yards, an inch adjustment down and left, one more shot at 100 yds and one slight adjustment from that. 2 shot sight in, nice.
Powder 2209, and 80 grn ELDX. Cases Lapua SRP, first resize from 6mm Creed. No pressure signs at all.
I will load some 39.8 grns and try again but they look on the money. They should chrono circa 3,250 fps and will be a good start for hunting. Ive been keen to try the 80 ELDX.
First 3 shots, 39 grns (only shots chrono'd). Velocity 3,214 fps.

2nd 3 shots. 39.5 grns.

3rd 2 shots. 39.8 grns

4th 2 shots. 40 grns

I see Greg is using RL 26 Bruce, this looks a very interesting build and I can't wait for the updates, thinking I need one built myself now.
If you want some more 80grn eldx yell out

Hodgdon Superperformance would be worth a try

Remember Gimps 10 shot mantra! The 10 shot group groups will be interesting.
Blasphemous!
Looks like you're coming full circle with the statistics. Some rifles are precise enough that its not really worth shooting 10shots group each time you zero a rifle.
I dropped and fell on my rifle a few times while hunting the Ruahines this last week. I was sure it would be out. 3 shots of my main load later and two of the bush load (which crono'd 80fps slower?) and i knew it was still dead on (1 click left to negate spindrift)

Now that your sure to bin this barrel @Tahr, i'll buy it of you for a song :P
I might try get a 22 CM barrel with the excuse that it's for my daughters ;)
If you want some superperformance to try in it I've got some you're welcome to have
2209 is really a bit on the quick side for optimal performance. 2213 would be a good choice, I’m using IMR7828ssc in mine. Something in the region of 42.3gr with 88’s
I'm using rl22 atm with 88s
Not super quick at 2864fps 16 inch tube but doing the busy
On the topic of hot calibres eg Creedmoor necked down here is an experience of mine.
About 40 years ago a gunsmith mate made up this wildcat.
I cannot remember all the detail eg barrel source (maybe ex machine gun, I don't know).
He didn't have a chronograph (they were very rare back then) so no idea of the velocities.
No idea of powder (there was a lot of strange unidentified ex military stuff still around then) or how much.
Accuracy was abysmal with some projectiles maybe not making it to the target.
I think he got around 200 rounds before the barrel was toast and became a tomato stake. Maybe overbore?
