    My first AR

I've finally decided to take the plunge and get my first ar rather than just buying one off the shelf in a bid to learn the weapons system better I've decided to build one so I was wanting to pick the brains of the forums experts with a few questions. It's going to be an A cat build in 5.56 for hunting goats rabbits and the like close range shooting out to around 300 meters with maybe a bit of range work thrown in. I'd like to try and keep the build price under 2k

Firstly what tools would you recommend as being a must have?

It's going to be a A cat build for now and I'm looking at running a carbine system with a spears a cat stock which buffer assembly would work well with this?

I want to run it with a suppressor down line at some stage do I need an adjustable gas block to do this?

Finally I don't really want to mess around with customs importing parts so am looking at getting the parts locally where abouts do you guys like to get your parts from is there any manufacturers or suppliers you would recommend or stay away?

Any help or advice is much appreciated
    Cheers James

Nothing you probably don't already have, vise, hammer, pin punches, 1/2" drive wrench. A torque wrench and vise blocks will make things easier.

The Spear stock only fits on a rifle length buffer tube. Rifle buffers only come in one weight, but it's the same weight as the heaviest carbine buffer, which is what I would suggest using on a suppressed rifle.

Most guns don't 'need' one, but not using one is less than optimal.

Get all the parts you need then send me a message. I have an AR armorers kit which makes everything so easy. Happy to lend for a few beers

Keep us updated with the build and the cost over buying a complete gun. Also the first firing and range report etc etc. Will be a cool project to see unfold.

Just did the same thing myself. Very satisfying and gave me a really good idea of how the whole thing works. There are heaps of videos on you tube which helped me immensely. Have shot quite a few bunnies with it now. Hopefully nail a deer with it soon. Name: P1000174.jpg

I'm considering the same. Want to stick with A-Cat for now, but there does not seem to be any A-Cat stocks with adjustable cheek piece or butt pad???

Gonna cost an extra $1k to go E-Cat just to get a decent stock?

    Cheers

Why is it $1k for an E cat?
