    My projectish gun

After calling a mate to ask his very knowledgeable cousin to find me a wood blued 308 working gun he found me this nice ruger m77 mk11 and i got it for a song(Cheers Rob!)
obviously it has had some modifications..... but otherwise in beautiful condition for its age 1993.

My plan is to try find a nos stock and put a classic nice scope on it.
This I'd like some help as to what to put on it, ideally it would be light and mid quality I wouldn't mind something fixed power as this gun is only going to shoot 150m max and punch through twigs leaves etc in the bush.
I've got a budget of $300 ish for the scope.

Occasionally some fixed x4 power Leupold m8's pop up under your budget. Or for a tad more you could get a gloss finish 2-7x33 which would be in keeping with the rifle.

Nice-the sort of rifle I'd like for a project one day-right calibre too

Agree totally. Vx2 2-7 would be the perfect old school scope to 150m.
I have had a couple for 30 plus years and they are bomb proof and ultra reliable

Very hard to beat a fixed power scope in the 2 1/2 to 4 power range I have a 2 1/2 power Khales that I pick up cheap a few years ago
a friend borrowed it and the rifle it's on and shot 2 deer at 200 and 260 metres one shot each I haven't been lucky enough to shoot
any animals that far but can hit 6" gongs at 200 all day, you don't need enormous powered scope to shoot animals at 200 metres
just buy a scope with good glass.

I found an m8 compact not that long ago, can’t recall where, but it was bugger all $170?

You can probably retrieve that stock with a bit of imagination - pistol grip would be straightforward and then a decent bit of something for a fore end, put on right, would look better than new.

Shaved down the antler to how i like it, put a vx11 3x9x33 ultra light leupold on, and sighted it in @100yrds.
Very happy with how it turned out! Its nice and light and shoots better than me, i think its a very handsome rifle now

I don't know if my eyes are failing me, but is there some type of pattern on the barrel? Like the twisted hammer forging pattern on the Baikal single shots?
