    My initial thoughts have already been suggested by others, another suggestion was some sort or aim corrector training aid that was missing the internal mirror but after looking at some online I don't think its one of those either. Sorry out of suggestions.

    I am thinking it might be protective cover for an adjustable target aperture sight, as the thing seems to be in two planes like the vertical and horizontal limbs of a target sight.

    Looks a bit similar to one of these -bayonet attachment for cutting wire.

    Will offer a $20 reward to anyone who can ID this as its got me really curious. Need to have photos of it in a book or a link to it online as proof though.

    So just thinking out loud, if I can find something that sounds feasible and sort of right, and cut and past one of those photo's of the little thingy in question in I get $50 and everyone is no wiser but suddenly happy?
