what does the 338 Edge. have over 338lm its for steel and the odd deer and goat out to 1500 steel about 1000 for the rest

redbang has got one, and iv got one, they are good for the price, as said before get a good optic - premier/ schmit and bend etc
The Norma brass is a much better price, 1/2 the lapua, and I'm up to 10-12 reloads on my original lot. If you get the Savage get the chamber polished before you fire a shot, they are notoriously rough. Once it was done and a slightly longer bolt knob fitted, my stiff extraction problems went away, and yes, it shoots awesome well.

Nteza I have a Savage 110BA in 300 Win Mag and love it. As a real newbie to long range my counsel would be take your time to try out (if you can) various calibre' and makes / models of rifle and then once you have found the one you like make sure you invest well in a good scope and match the reticle to the turret adjustments. My only frustration is that I have a scope with a mil dot reticle and moa turret adjustment as mentally converting is a real piss me off.
Forget the 30 cals, if you want a lightish rifle get a 7mm mag and if you dont mind humping some weight get a 338.
Two of my mates shoot 7mm mags out to 1000yds like having a shit, both just standard store bought guns. They are cheap to load,easy on barrels,easy on shoulders and easy to carry.
Now that ive got that out of the way i can say that i was asking the same questions only months ago. The answer i came up with was 338. I have two smaller 338s that had me covered from Near-Far so for Far-way the hell out there i got a Lapua improved (nz hunter FX version). I wanted it heavy to make it easy to shoot but not so much that it gets left at home.
I saved weight where i could, Alloy Talley rings, Trued Remington action, Mc millan carbon fibre stock and put weight in the barrel (28inch med contour) and scope (5.5-22x50 Nightforce ) Finished weight 10.4 lbs.
If (BIG IS GOOD) its real good. 300gr Berger at 2960fps makes a big hole and holes are easy to carry.
Ive only shot two deer so far, one at 350yds and one at 150yds. Yes i could of done that with a 308 like everyone else (bugger)
Any rifle that is going to shoot out to the 1500 mark is not going to be cheap to load for. You need good projectiles to go the distance, and good projectiles are not cheap. As for powder, I know that when reloading for my STW I am pouring close to 100 grains each time and those 1 lb plastic bottles get tossed over the shoulder at regular intervals. Good brass is not cheap but will last if looked after by not having to throw too many away because of over loading. I never have to justify my reloading costs to myself or anyone else, but i try to keep a straight face when pushing the plastic card over the counter.Quote:
