I Have about $2000 budget to spend, could maybe bump it up to $2500 but would rather keep it around the $2000 mark. It is for target shooting.
Any ideas?

Sightron, Vortex? Leaves some spare for rings
bushnell lrhs?
got a sightron s3 at the mo, dials very accurately
or a march
DED's are doing really good deals on Nightforces at the mo, 5-22 x 56 NSX for $2399
Shoot it, root it & then BBQ it !!!
You already have a $2500 budget, you just dont know it yet. Step 1 - spend all $2000 on your glass. Step 2 - Now point out to the mrs that you forgot RINGS! Tis an honest mistake. Such a nice scope shall surely require a spuhr mount
Our club uses a $1600NZ scope on a 308w FTR to shoot to 1000yds. Using it, I keep up with more expensive scopes, even beating @ebf on occasion. My suggestion is you want as big a view as you can get to watch the wind and to minimalise and maximalise mirage so a decent variable power.
I'd suggest something similar to this would be good which is what we use and enough to spend IMHO. Two shooters I know in the NZ FTR team are also using similar quality/priced scopes and they are hard to beat.
Deadeye Dicks - Sightron
To get into NF looks like x2 the price unless you want to import.

I would say Sightron is the best bet for the money and well good for 1000m. Have had my 6-24x50 out easy to 1000+
You're a funny guy Steve... That was last season, before I unleashed the full potential of the franken-gun
PS my scope is around $800 and the rifle probably 1/10th of your club rifle, but hey, it's all about the equipment, right
jackAngus, knowing what I know now, I'd be investing in a FFP vortex PST 6-24, get it from Theopticzone.com.
Have you got a rifle yet ?
Other options would be Sightron s3 ffp 6-24 or if you decide to go second focal plane then s3 8-32x56 or 10-50x60
I shoot most FTR matches between 16 and 20 magnification, not convinced that higher mag is worth it, sometimes it is a negative as you'll see people shooting on the wrong target when they don't have the full target frame and number in the sight picture

@ebf Yeah, I always found that going much above x20 ish at 1000m was just pointless due to the mirage and lack of view. Now would a NF optics get through that mirage significantly better and give a better picture? for 2x$s? over the above optics mentioaned, I'd like proof.
$800? so you bought a 1/2 way decent scope then?
and you know its about all about reading the wind and Trentham is a bugger.
Doh away again this weekend, so missing 300yds again......f**** f**** f***
Why do ppl have to go and get married anyway, oh wait they are fundie christians...oh joy....
Wish my new toy would hurry up and get here......

At that price its hard to beat a nxs but i would def look at a sightron s3 aswell. have shoot my 338rum to 1060y with mine
No I haven't got a rifle yet. Have been looking at a few for long range target shooting.
Savage 10ba 308.
Savage ftr 308
Remington aics long range tactical 308.
But not sure yet.
Would any of these rifles be competitive up to 1000m?
Any ideas guys?
Yea, the scopes you guys have recommended all look good.
Where is the best place to look for a good long rang rifle?
At the moment Gun city Wellington is really the only place I'm looking.
If I didn't have the S&B I would seriously look at this. There is about 6-700usd off this at the moment.
