The sako Bavarian is a beautiful rifle but it is quite a safe queen
It might just be me but If it was to be used and passed down to my kids etc and them use it
Wouldn’t a stainless barrel action be a better long lasting option?
Don’t get me wrong you can’t beat the walnut blued look but just thinking practically.
I would be scared to use it.
Really depends if it is just intended to be a safe queen with a bit of use or a rifle that he takes everywhere and shoots everything with it in any kind of weather etc

He's got plenty of rifles to take out everyday . This would be something that only gets taken out occasionally.

I guess if there's that kind of budget for (too nice to take bush in all weather?) then there's likely budget for down n dirty tools also ?
Or as mentioned above T3 & VX1 and spend the balance taking the youngin's on a special fly in trip at brthday age x that they can cherish the memories?
Just a thought. I've said before about mtorcycles, the world's a better place that the top shelf toys exist but I dont personally need to finance them.

Yeah, this is a special gift for a special reason. He's got several other day to day hunting rifles for our normal trips- 223, 270, 7 remmag...doesn't have kids (yet).

Bavarians are nice, especially if you get a nice piece of wood but not really special, a lot gun shops have one one the wall, Iv seen a couple of 223 rem with feeeding issues. If it was me and I had the time Id goa cooper, something like
this in 250 savage


or maybe this in 260 Rem

Ring Davey Hughes in levin and see if he’s got any second hand Rigbys hanging around.

$7k might get you a basic one.

To me, for a special rifle the Bavarian, while beautiful, is a bit too common.

Top of the line Ruger #1 full wood in 223 or 6.5x55,

Just because it is a sako doesn't mean it will shoot. I can say that from personal experience. The full wood models are the worst. You might get a good shooter or a frustrating disaster that nothing including a panel of gunsmiths will cure.
I agree with Spudattack .. they are a bit too common

Im just a commoner mate, I wouldn't really know.
I did shoot a 7mm-08 Bavarian and found the stock was heavy, and the shape (for me) was terrible for felt recoil. I also couldn't keep the rifle in the sight picture after the shot very well.
