    New build 30/284 Remington

Here is my first custom/wildcat build .Its a 30/284 on a short action sps with a Duley inspired 3.150 mag extension , My mate Phil did the re barrel, chamber and magazine extension work and threaded the barrel for one of his suppressors. The barrel is a take of from a target rifle and shortend to 28 inches and re profiled . All that needs doing now is some load work and then i am away . I have to thank Nic for selling me the reamer and dies and Cam for some info on loads . I am planning to run 155 amax's or 150 nosler ballistic tips . On with some pic's

Yes Gibo , Stocky , its what what Greg Duley did with the fat max build in an NZ HUNTER article .He made the mag length 3.150 inches long by cutting up a wyatt long action mag . We didn't quite do it that way but Phil being the clever bugger he is achieved the same same result using the bits that we had .

What are the ballistics on a 30/284? Same as the 06’?

why not run a heavier bullet, you have the case capacity and barrel length to push something a bit heavier at reasonable speed and get the benefit of a better BC?

Being an ex target barrel it probably doesn't have the twist to shoot much over a 155

    125 ballistic tips at 3500fps
Actually they didnt shoot that well going that fast out of my 10 twist but may do out of a slower twist.

What sort of velocity are you expecting with the 150's? They should be fair moving out of a 28 inch barrel.

I guess it would just be like a more aggressive version of the wyatts? Just interested as I have a project in mind that I was going to use the 3B- Bainey mag at 3.11 but every little bit of length counts

Nick-d ,I am hoping to get somewhere over 3000 fps ,just how far over that will only be found out once we do the load work and find out what it does and what it likes. Being an ex target rifle its been shooting 155's but i am hoping i can go a bit heaver to 165's . I think these will be heavy enough for anything i am likely to use it on. The barrel is a 1/13 twist . Stocky , All the bits we used where from the the original components of the standard of the rifle which was a 7mm-08 , Phil milled out the receiver as you would to fit an extension then just tweaked the stock parts to work. We where planning this part of the build for a while as the rifle in its original state 7mm-08 could not fit 162 eldm's in the factory mag ,with them being seated to where they shot best .

I have a .308 win target barrel ex Din Collins, rechambered to .300 win mag. It shoots 180s just fine.

You may be surprised. Mine is 1:10 twist
