upgrading my t3 300winmag to a rem 700 5r , should i go all out on a nightforce or go for a sightron or similar and spend the xtra on trigger , bedding etc. have already decided to go with hardy suppressor , want to get to 800/1000 reliable results. pic of t3 Name: ImageUploadedByTapatalk1358160415.575506.jpg

Gidday, Keep your tikka because there is no such thing as up grading to a rem.just get it accurised and buy a night force as that is what you will buy eventually after wasting money on lesser optics. Treat yourself to a set of ranging binos and do a heap of practice and when you have 800 beaten just buy a 338 trg and whack the night force on that.
    Cheers Andy

Welcome to the forum. I agree with Andy in that you should keep the T3 but disagree with him in that you should buy the Remington as well.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.

30calterry welcome to the forum not being a longrange expurt i can offer you this dont ask on here what rifle to buy as its like asking which car to buy every one has there fav, youll already no what not to buy.So filter thru the info on here as theres plenty of good info on here and youll be better off in no time.If you wanna upgrade to the rem go for it there are longrange shooters on here either owned one or use the action so keep that in mind.

No amount of gear is going to get you reliably to 800-1000. Practice will. Spend the coin on reloading gear, make a bunch of ammo and burn out the 300 barrel or buy a 308 as well and shoot lots more. Woundies suck.
Ditch the can too. Heavy, unwieldly and impractical for LR shooting. Ask KG to do you a brake and you can thank me later.

    Oh, and welcome aboard.

5000+ rounds of practice can't hurt, and he will get good at reading wind

    Welcome to the forum.

Keep the Tikka, no reason to upgrade the rifle

What glass are you using on the Tikka ?

Tell us some more about distances you are shooting at and specific issues that makes you feel that an upgrade is required.

how far can you shoot currently?

your current set up should get you right out there by the looks of it,
outshoot your current set up then look to upgrading, atleast then the new rifles barrel isnt taking the brunt of the wear
nessary things in my mind are - rangefinder, notebook, handload with a nice high BC bullet with acompanying chrony reading and drop chart, big target IE gib board size. then just time and recording in your note book correcting the dropchart

on the bright side this is the fun bit, rather than waiting on parts in the mail and having an incomplete rifle

what twist is the rifle? I found the 220SMK had a shorter OAL when just off the lands than the amax from memory?

the hybrid VLD and the new Acubond that's on the way also look good on paper but as my current barrel on the 300RUM is slow twist I can't use them ... Will be going back to a faster twist when I wear out the current barrel

My SIII Sightron has served me well but I haven't tried the newer models, mine is the older covered dials... Need to test the travel again though as its been on the RUM for a while now and the other day I am not sure if it was the scope or the conditions... I had to dial way less than I thought for the new load. Repeated still so may be tail wind up draft??
Fishing ... Hunting its all good
