New rifle calibre options: 6.5x55 vs 7/08

I went hunting last weekend with a mate who had the cookie cutter T3 7/08.
Despite myself I picked it up - what a nice easy pointing rifle.
I though to myself I 'need' another rifle thats light and clean and good for all round deer hunting (if you can call what I do hunting!).
I've got a tuned 270wsm for longer range I want something for everything else closer.
I don't reload I get 7mmsaum to do all that for me.
Thoughts on the above calibre options? I've always quite liked the 6.5x55?
Was just cruising on tardme and saw the 6.5 gunworks rifle in T3, suppressed - any opinions?
    Cheers

Do you have a current short/medium range rifle ? Or just the 270WSM ?

For the options listed above (7mm08, 6.5x55, 308) it all pretty much comes down to a personal preference. Some are slightly better at longer (6/7/8/9 hundy) distances, some have slightly lighter recoil, some have a slightly larger range of projectiles to choose from...

Well I've got tables out to 900 yards - back on earth I can hit what I'm aiming at 550 yards max - I won't shoot an animal anywhere past that (and wouldn't at the moment at 550 actually) Watched a nice fat stag at 770 over the weekend and mused it would be nice to be able to bowl them at that distance - reality for me is it takes plenty of practise which I'm not currently getting.
I'm keen on something a bit different - 7/08's seem to be a dime a dozen, my best mate has a 308 so I can't get one (need something to give him shit about during a hunt) 6.5 x 55's seem to tick all the boxes.

Only got the 270wsm atm - it just isn't enough

    One is never enough

Sounds to me like you've made up your mind about the 6.5x55

Having said that, you'll basically end up with 2 very capable rifles and you're effectively shooting distances covered by both. Not really that big a difference.

Have you thought about going for something more short range focused, but still "interesting" enough ? Lever gun ? Or a "bush" caliber like 375 ?

243 for shorter range and lighter animals. Short action and less girlie than 7-08.

WHAT DO YOU INTEND TO USE IT FOR ?

Caliber suggestions are just emotive drivel without this information.
