that is a fair comment but that would go for most semi autos 10/22 to shot guns I'm a stickler for people hunting with me Rifle pointing safe direction and keep behind the person carrying rifle that's how do it with my daughter supervision is the key to saftey well that's what I think

One thing I liked with the gevarm .22 is the open bolt meaning you can have the weapon cocked and have the magazine in your hand, very quiet to slide the magazine home when going to shoot, and also very easy and quiet to make safe.

I filed a second notch in the mag to hold the mag below the point the bolt would strip a round out.
At first a few extra bunnys lived as I forgot to put the mag the rest of the way in but I learnt.

Still, as it's hard to buy a new gervarm and the mags tend to be worn on what you can get second hand....

Over half probably can't even do that task safely either.loading and unloading an AR isn't a quiet task anyway .I wouldn't mind opening up on a mob of stunkies with an AR imo.

I've found that you can load an AR pretty quietly. Just go slow and gentle on the charging handle, then use the FA to push the round into battery.

It takes a fraction longer than a bolt gun, but to my ear the sound levels are pretty similar to working the action on my bolt guns.

Unloading is pretty quiet too, as long as you go slow and don't rack the charging handle like a maniac.

AR.s for hunting in New Zealand.
I think,
Some use the idea and use it well.
Some like the idea and wish.
Some have absolutely no fucken idea and should never be allowed near one.
Its the last lot I wish we all had some idea of who they are.

Same applies for bolt actions, plenty of hunters shot with them negligently

unsafe handling is unsafe handling regardless of action type

it's not hard:

don't point it at things you don't want to shoot
keep your finger off the trigger until you're ready to shoot
keep the safety on until you're ready to shoot
make sure what you're going to shoot is actually what you want to shoot
check the chamber/mag before handling

I would like one,but would have to change my hunting to justify one.
IE hunt for multiple targets like bunnys wallbys goats.

There is a lot to be said for the single shot as a teaching rifle.

Robbie at Gunworks is still doing a Scoped, Surpressed, stainaless Howa package for around $1200 if I recall correctly.

The Savage 'trophy hunter' packages with Weaver scope for $950 are very sharp buying too, I'd take that over a Howa personally but both are good deals.
