    New Rifle Options

    Hey team.

I am looking at purchasing a new rifle. This will be specifically for hunting S.I tops for tahr and reds. Wanting it to be reasonably light weight and hard hitting.

I really like the look of the new Finnlight 2. Considering either 7mm rem mag, 300win or 300wsm.

I currently have a VX6HD ready to fit to this and would fit a Terminator brake on it.

Which calibre should I go with? I have someone who is able to reload this for me. Any thoughts or options would be appreciated before I look into this any further!

    Cheers

All good but with the 7mm you also have the "oldie but goodie" option of 7x64, they usually shoot wonderfully, nip right on the heels of the 7mm Rem Mag power-wise (its common for 7x64 handloads to equal 7mmRM factory ammo - mine do) and its well COOL!

My CZ 7x64 is very accurate for an "out of the box" untuned factory rifle, it'll do consistent 3/4" groups day in day out, and is really nice to shoot (and I'm a bit recoil sensitive). Same things can be said of the 280 Rem as well.

I'm not sure there is a 7x64 available in the Finnlight2? Can't see anything on the site for it.

Leaning towards a 300. Which preference between the full mag & wsm? 100grams lighter and slight shorter barrel

How far are you hoping to take animals? The WSM will do the job energy-wise out beyond where most people would be comfortable shooting.

WSMs are great, but I'd check to see how lengthy the mag-box is on the Finnlight. In tikkas the standard mag box length doesn't allow the longer VLD / ELD type projectiles to be used without seriously impinging on powder capacity.

Who said I was shooting tahr at 900? @257weatherby

I have shot a tonne of tahr, none of them have been further than 450yards.

The last bull I shot was with a 243 at 100yards. I have no interest in shooting animals out to 900. Simply thought I should have a hard hitting calibre to ensure I put down the animal quickly and effeciently with the correct shot placement.
@hispeedlodrag - as above, I haven't needed to shoot past 450, however I'd like to stretch out to 600 or more if necessary.

Just get a tikka 7mm rem mag bro and save the extra cash the sako would of cost ya. The vx6hd is a nice match with that keeping the setup light. Yes the mag length restricts OAL but haven't had any issues with getting mine to shoot the 162 eldx.

    Sako Finnlight 2. @buzzman

    2 scope options, Swarovski Z5 3-18x44 & VX6HD 3-18x44. Which would you go for?
