New scope for 270 rem CDL suggestions?

Hey everyone have been slowly putting together a Rem 700 CDL over the last 2 years. has been rebarrelled with a Truflight magnum contour barrel,( replaced the fluted stainless that had been cut to 18 inches) then accurised, retriggered, wooden stock hand rubbed and I have just gone through the nerve racking experience of full length bedding it. If in the event that I havent destroyed the 3 eights of an inch groups at 100m that I sometimes pulled off almost a year ago. I want to put another scope on it.( after getting a suppressor mounted) It originally came with a Burris euro diamond 3-12X50 which has been a good scope I quess.my knowledge and experience of newer optics is almost non existant ( thought it had good clarity but was huge compared to the old crap fixed power scopes I learnt to shoot with and I found the reticle a bit thick for my liking). So my question is what do I get? Rifle is long, quite heavy and very pretty.. I dont really like how it has to sit so high from the barrel because of front lense diameter. however it seems all scopes are designed this way now? This is supposed to be somewhat of a hack deer rifle 30-500m with an emphasis on going possibly further when I gain experience, as I do have a lever 45-70 for the real close stuff) so was looking at a 3-15x scope of sort. Dont want to shell out for a leupold if I dont have to? was looking at the Burris signature 3-15x44 as I have seen good reviews but once again that appears to be large with heaps of gadgets and I would rather practise my skills? memorise my charts dial in if I have to, put and shoot.. Do I have any obvious options? will probably have to flick the Euro diamond in order to help pay for anything pricey.

    Hey mate
Just on your mentioning of the Burris Signature HD 3-15x44 - as I have had one before. It is lovely glass (there is a review by Tahr somewhere on here which is well worth a read) but it is also quite a bulky and in my opinion heavy scope. Especially the Parallax adjustment knob on the left side protrudes quite significantly, and I found it a bit awkward. However - it was also more scope than I needed for the area I often hunt (mostly bush areas). So just to keep those things in mind. Might be worth viewing in person to help decide also.

I am about to recieve a 270 myself (in transit currently) and have purchased a VX2 LR Duplex for on it - which is more likely to suit my needs. However - if you are considering up to 500m the additional magnification would be helpful. Hope that helps!

Keep the current scope for now and keep your eyes out for a secondhand scope. Something in the 3-15 would be ideal. I’ve got a Leupold vx6 2-12x40 on my rifle, love it but the reticle is a bit thick.
Avx3i 3.5-10 would be nice, it’s a smaller scope but still nice to look through.

Any suggestion helps Joel,Its hard to wade through the sales pitches of the various scopes and their percieved advantages. I am somewhat hungup on the the idea of the variable starting at 3 ( I hunt bush also, well the edges of bush with this thing) however I am starting to think a 4-to whatever I can get in a good platform might suit this build better, plus I might need to grow longer arms if I tried to weld it fast. It balances real nice(like a long shotgun) with a supressor I doubt will feel a thing with recoil. will just have to (as you said)look through some glass and find something that fits.

Sounds like you need a VX5, buy once, cry once, you will never look back.

ask yourself honestly ...is 350 your maximum range or is it really going to be 500y ???

because a vx1 3x9x40 will get you out to 350 with ease and should mount lower than current scope... by 5mm at least.

A red dot will negate the need for higher end magnification to some extent and help with poor light if the scope is not super good

I’ve got a Burris signature 3-15 and it’s a great value scope. Same weight and Very similar size as my vx5. If you get the non illuminated plex reticle then the turrets stick out the same as a vx5

I was a bit like you mate, after many years of using a low power scope (2.5-8x36) when i bought my t3x 7rm i wanted a scope with 3x at the low end and ended up with a Zeiss HD5 3-15x44.
I do a lot of bush hunting as well but i find i set my scope on 4x most of the time with no problems. My Zeiss has quite a large field of view which helps up close and is something to consider when choosing a scope. If i was looking for a scope now i would consider a VX5 or a Burris Signature as a cheaper option. cheers
